AbhiBus sells an optional add-on called Travel Guarantee which pays out if your bus operator cancels the service. The advertised benefit is 3X the ticket fare, and the fee starts at Rs. 9.

Its own FAQ, read on 22 October 2026, explains what that 3X is made of: 1X comes back to your card as money, and 2X is issued as a coupon locked to your AbhiBus account. The fee itself is non-refundable under any circumstances, including when the guarantee pays out.

📅 Update log:
22 Oct 2026: first published. Every term, figure and quoted phrase read from AbhiBus's own published FAQ at abhibus.com/faq on 22 October 2026, as a logged-out visitor in India. Nothing was booked, no Travel Guarantee was purchased and no claim was filed.

AbhiBus sells an optional add-on called Travel Guarantee that pays out if your bus operator cancels the service. The advertised benefit is 3X the ticket fare.

AbhiBus's own FAQ, read on 22 October 2026, explains how that 3X is composed: one part cash and two parts coupon.

What the 3X is actually made of

PortionPaid asComputed onWhere you can spend it
1X (100%) of the ticket fareCash, to your original payment sourceafter discount adjustmentsSpendable anywhere
2X (200%) of the basic fareAn AbhiBus Travel Guarantee Couponticket basic fare minus bus partner discountUsable only on a future AbhiBus bus booking
The Travel Guarantee fee itselfNot returnednon-refundable "under any circumstances"—

The 1X is money. AbhiBus credits 100% of your ticket fare, after discount adjustments, back to the payment source you used.

The 2X is credit with AbhiBus. The FAQ describes it as an "AbhiBus Travel Guarantee Coupon" issued on the ticket basic fare minus the bus partner discount, usable on your next bus booking. It is worth its face value only across future AbhiBus bus tickets, and the FAQ says it is locked to your account and mobile number.

The fee is gone either way. AbhiBus states that the Travel Guarantee fee paid at booking is non-refundable under any circumstances — including the circumstance in which the guarantee pays out in full.

AbhiBus's own worked example, set out line by line

LineAmount
Ticket fareRs. 1,000
Travel Guarantee fee added at bookingRs. 20
Total paidRs. 1,020
If the operator cancels — returned to your payment modeRs. 1,000
If the operator cancels — issued as a couponRs. 2,000, locked to your account and mobile number
If the operator cancels — the Rs. 20 feeNot refunded
Cash back in your accountRs. 1,000 of Rs. 1,020
Value you can spend anywhereRs. 1,000
Value you can spend only with AbhiBusRs. 2,000

That example is AbhiBus's, not ours. It appears in the Travel Guarantee section of its FAQ, and we have simply laid the arithmetic out as a table rather than a paragraph.

Read as a ledger, the traveller is Rs. 20 down in cash and holds Rs. 2,000 of AbhiBus credit. They paid Rs. 1,020, got Rs. 1,000 back to their card, and received a Rs. 2,000 coupon. Whether that is a good outcome depends entirely on whether they take another AbhiBus bus — a Rs. 2,000 coupon is worth Rs. 2,000 to a frequent traveller on that route and nothing to someone who was making a one-off trip.

None of this is hidden. AbhiBus publishes the breakdown and the example on its own FAQ page. The reason it is worth restating is that the figure that reaches most travellers is "3X", and 3X of a Rs. 1,000 fare naturally reads as Rs. 3,000 coming back — where the cash component is Rs. 1,000.

The five conditions, and the one that excludes most real situations

ConditionWhat AbhiBus states
The bus must be fully cancelled by the operatorNot a partial cancellation, not a delay, not a breakdown
You must have opted in at bookingSelected on the passenger details page, before payment
You must be logged in to your AbhiBus accountStated as a condition of availing the benefit
TimingApplies regardless of how many hours before departure the operator cancels — last-minute cancellations are covered
If you cancelThe Travel Guarantee does not apply at all — standard cancellation policy instead
The feeFrom Rs. 9, added automatically to the payable amount when selected; non-refundable

The exclusion worth reading twice is the first one. The benefit applies when the bus is fully cancelled by the operator — not for a partial cancellation, not for a delay, and not for a bus service breakdown. Those are AbhiBus's own listed exclusions.

A delay and a breakdown are, for most travellers, the likelier failure modes than a clean operator cancellation, and they are precisely what this product does not cover. AbhiBus does sell cover for some of them under a separate scheme, Abhi Assured, which the same FAQ describes as paying up to 150% on a service cancellation and up to 100% on a bus quality issue, with its own claim process and a 24-hour filing window after the journey ends. They are different products with different terms, and buying one does not get you the other.

The timing condition is unusually generous and worth noting in fairness: the FAQ says the guarantee applies regardless of how many hours before departure the operator cancels, and that even last-minute cancellations are covered. Many travel protection products do the opposite.

What this page does not tell you

Nothing here was bought, booked or claimed. Every term, figure and quoted phrase on this page comes from AbhiBus's own published FAQ at abhibus.com/faq, read on 22 October 2026 as a logged-out visitor in India. We did not buy a Travel Guarantee, did not have a bus cancelled, and did not file a claim. We therefore cannot tell you how the scheme behaves in practice - how quickly a payout arrives, how the coupon appears in an account, what happens in a disputed case, or whether the published terms are applied as written.

The fee is not a fixed figure. AbhiBus says it starts "as low as Rs. 9"; its own example uses Rs. 20 on a Rs. 1,000 fare. We have not established how it scales, and the only honest advice is to read the amount shown on your own passenger details page before you pay.

And terms change. These were the published terms on 22 October 2026. AbhiBus can revise them, and the FAQ itself notes elsewhere that coupon rules may be changed without notice. Nothing on this page is legal or financial advice, and nothing here asserts that AbhiBus has misdescribed its own product - the 3X figure and its composition are both published by AbhiBus. Check the live terms before you rely on them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AbhiBus Travel Guarantee and what does it actually pay?
It is an optional paid add-on that pays out if the bus operator cancels your service - and the advertised "3X the ticket fare" is one part cash and two parts coupon. AbhiBus's own FAQ, read on 22 October 2026, sets it out: 1X (100%) of your ticket fare after discount adjustments is credited back to your original payment source, and 2X (200%) - the ticket basic fare minus the bus partner discount - is issued as an AbhiBus Travel Guarantee Coupon which you can use on your next bus booking. So on a Rs. 1,000 fare, AbhiBus's own worked example returns Rs. 1,000 to your payment mode and Rs. 2,000 as a coupon locked to your account and mobile number. Two thirds of the headline figure can only be spent with AbhiBus.
How much does AbhiBus Travel Guarantee cost?
The fee starts at Rs. 9, according to AbhiBus's own FAQ, and it is added to your payable amount when you select it. It is an opt-in add-on offered on the passenger details page, after you have chosen your seats and boarding point and before you pay. The fee is non-refundable "under any circumstances" - AbhiBus's own words - including in the case where the guarantee pays out. In its worked example, a Rs. 20 fee on a Rs. 1,000 fare is not returned even when the operator cancels and the full 3X benefit is issued. The fee scales with the fare rather than being flat; Rs. 9 is the floor AbhiBus names, not the price.
Does AbhiBus Travel Guarantee pay out if I cancel my own ticket?
No. AbhiBus's FAQ is explicit about this. "If you cancel the booking, the Travel Guarantee does not apply. The 3X refund benefit is only applicable when the bus operator cancels the service." A user-initiated cancellation falls back to AbhiBus's standard cancellation policy, which is set by the bus partner and shown to you when you select the bus. And the Travel Guarantee fee you paid is not returned either. If what you want is protection against your own plans changing, Travel Guarantee is not that product - AbhiBus sells a separate Free Cancellation add-on for that, with different terms.
What exactly has to happen for Travel Guarantee to pay?
The bus must be fully cancelled by the operator, you must have opted in at booking, and you must be logged in to your AbhiBus account. The FAQ names all three. "Fully cancelled" excludes a partial cancellation, a delay and a bus service breakdown - those are AbhiBus's own listed exclusions, and at least two of them are the situations a traveller is most likely to actually encounter. Timing is not a condition: the benefit applies regardless of how many hours before departure the cancellation happens, and the FAQ says last-minute cancellations are covered. AbhiBus runs a separate scheme, Abhi Assured, covering bus delay and bus quality, with its own terms and a different payout.
Is the 2X coupon worth the same as cash?
Only if you were going to spend it with AbhiBus anyway. The FAQ describes the 2X portion as an AbhiBus Travel Guarantee Coupon "locked to your account/mobile number" and usable on your next bus booking. That makes it credit with one merchant, not money. On AbhiBus's own Rs. 1,000 example, the Rs. 1,000 returned to your card is worth Rs. 1,000 anywhere; the Rs. 2,000 coupon is worth Rs. 2,000 only across future AbhiBus bus tickets, and nothing at all if you do not take another bus with them. We are not saying the product is bad value - a Rs. 20 fee returning Rs. 1,000 cash plus Rs. 2,000 of usable credit is a real benefit if the operator cancels and you travel often. We are saying the headline "3X" is not three times your money back. These were the published terms on 22 October 2026; check AbhiBus's live terms before you rely on them.
