Most AbhiBus guidance is about finding a cheap fare. The rules that actually cost people money are duller and shorter: a ten-minute payment window that starts the moment you choose your seats, and a fifteen-minute rule at the pick-up point with a government ID that AbhiBus calls mandatory.

Below: both clocks and what happens when you miss them, what you must carry to board, which rules belong to the bus partner rather than to AbhiBus, and how saved preferences can pre-tick paid add-ons on your next booking.

7 Sep 2026 — first published, from the FAQ at abhibus.com/faq as served to a logged-out visitor on 7 September 2026. AbhiBus can amend its FAQ at any time and individual bus partners set their own luggage, refund and cancellation terms, so we re-read the page and log any change to the payment window, the boarding rules or the add-on behaviour here.

You have ten minutes to pay, and the clock starts at seat selection

The deadline that catches people on AbhiBus is not the departure time. It is the one that starts the moment you pick your seats: payment must be completed within 10 minutes. Miss it and AbhiBus says the order is annulled and void, and the seats are released for others to book.

Ten minutes is not long if you are switching to a banking app for an OTP, hunting for a card, or checking with the person you are travelling with about which boarding point to choose. Do that deciding before you select seats, not after — especially on a busy route where the seat you released may not be there when you start again.

The second clock runs at the other end of the journey and it is just as firm: be at the pick-up point a minimum of 15 minutes before departure, with your SMS confirmation and a government issued photo ID ready. AbhiBus is explicit about the consequence of getting this wrong — a bus missed because you arrived late, or because you waited at the wrong pick-up point, is specifically named as not refundable. Its up-to-100% missed-bus refund applies only where the fault lies with AbhiBus or the operator.

AbhiBus also advises booking at least two hours before departure, and says that where an operator cancels the service it issues an immediate full refund and helps you rebook.

The practical order of operations. Choose the route, boarding point and passengers first, have the payment method open, and only then select seats. The ten minutes is the tightest constraint in the whole booking flow and it is entirely avoidable.

The ID is mandatory, and the email is your boarding pass

AbhiBus answers the ID question with a single word — yes. It is mandatory to carry government issued identity proof along with your e-ticket. Not advisable, not usually: mandatory. If you are booking for family members who will board separately, each of them needs their own ID, which is worth saying out loud when you are the one paying.

The ticket itself is less fragile than people assume. The email confirmation serves as the boarding pass for most bus partners, and AbhiBus says it does not oversell its schedules, so that confirmation guarantees a seat on the ticketed service. If you lose the printout, reprint the email — or print it from AbhiBus.com by entering the PNR number that was sent to you by SMS. If the SMS never arrived, 24/7 support can re-send it with the PNR.

If no email arrived at all after booking, AbhiBus lists three likely reasons: the card payment failed and the system cancelled the purchase, the email address was entered incorrectly, or the mail landed in spam. Its instruction is sensible — check your bank statement first to see whether you were actually charged, then contact support if you were, or simply rebook if you were not.

At the boarding pointWhat AbhiBus's FAQ says
Government photo IDMandatory — the FAQ says you must carry government issued identity proof along with your e-ticket
Your ticketThe email confirmation serves as the boarding pass for most partners; some require a printout
Lost the printout?Reprint the emailed copy, or print from AbhiBus.com using the PNR number sent to you by SMS
No SMS received?24/7 customer support can re-send the SMS confirmation with PNR details
Booking for someone elseAllowed — the payer need not travel, but every passenger must carry their own government ID
Why your mobile number is requiredBooking and boarding-point SMS, and so the partner or AbhiBus can reach you about delays or schedule changes

Half the rules that apply to your trip are not AbhiBus's

This is the thing most worth understanding before you book anything on a bus aggregator. AbhiBus is the booking layer. The bus partner sets the travel rules, and the FAQ says so repeatedly.

Luggage is the clearest example. There is no AbhiBus baggage allowance. Each partner has its own rules on how much luggage is allowed, how much space exists, and what extra you pay for boxes — and AbhiBus's answer to the luggage question is to call its 24/7 support for the specific operator. If you are travelling with a large suitcase or cartons, settle that before the journey rather than at the door of the bus.

The same is true of refunds. Each partner sets its own cancellation conditions, and AbhiBus displays them while you are choosing the bus, on the ticket printout and in the email. Partial cancellation — dropping one passenger from a group booking — is accepted only by some partners. Full refunds, AbhiBus says, happen where the error was AbhiBus's or the operator's; a passenger-side cancellation is a partial refund on that partner's terms.

And the pricing oddity people most often query is also the partner's doing. Two seats on the same bus can cost different amounts for three published reasons: some buses have AC and non-AC sections, some mix seater and sleeper berths, and some partners simply price the front rows above the back rows. AbhiBus, for its part, states that it charges nothing extra over what the partner charges offline.

The rule you are looking forWhose rule it actually is
Luggage allowanceThe bus partner's — each sets its own limit, luggage space and extra charges for boxes
Refund conditionsThe bus partner's — shown while you choose the bus, and on the ticket printout and email
Partial cancellationAccepted only by some partners; check that partner's cancellation terms
Cancellation cut-offBefore the bus starts from the first boarding point — but terms vary by partner
Seat pricing in one busThe partner's — AC and non-AC, seater and sleeper, or front rows priced above back rows
Ticket price itselfAbhiBus says it charges nothing extra over the offline price the partner has set

Paying: India-issued cards, no phone booking, and pre-ticked add-ons

The payment options are broad but bounded. AbhiBus accepts net banking and Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Maestro cards — issued in India only. No credit card is needed at all: any internet-enabled bank account can book through net banking. What you cannot do is book by phone, or have tickets delivered cash-on-delivery; neither facility exists.

You can also pay for someone else. The FAQ is clear that the payer does not have to travel — just enter the correct passenger details and make sure each traveller carries their own government ID.

The one feature worth reading carefully is Smart Addons. If you tick “save for this and future booking”, AbhiBus stores those choices and pre-selects paid add-ons on your next booking. AbhiBus's own safeguards, quoted directly: you are not charged automatically, you will always see the total cost and a full item list in the fare details before you confirm and pay, and you can unselect any pre-selected add-on at checkout. Preferences can be changed permanently in the Preferences section of your profile, and the feature can be switched off entirely in account settings.

That is a fair description of the mechanism. It still means the default on a repeat booking may not be the cheapest one, so read the fare breakdown before paying — which, given the ten-minute clock, is one more reason to have your payment method ready before you start.

Payment questionWhat AbhiBus's FAQ says
Which cards work?Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Maestro — India-issued cards only
No card?Any internet-enabled bank account works via net banking
Can you book by phone? No — phone booking is not available
Cash on delivery of tickets? No — carry the SMS confirmation or a printout instead
How long do you have to pay?10 minutes from seat selection, or the seats are released
Are add-ons auto-charged?No — AbhiBus says the full cost and item list are shown before you confirm, and any pre-selected add-on can be unselected
How this page was read, and what it does not tell you

Everything on this page comes from AbhiBus's own FAQ at abhibus.com/faq, read on 7 September 2026 as a logged-out visitor in India. The ten-minute payment window and the release of seats, the 15-minute pick-up-point rule, the two-hour booking advice, the mandatory government ID requirement, the email-as-boarding-pass and no-overselling statements, the PNR reprint route, the reasons an email may not arrive, the missed-bus refund position and the explicit exclusion of arriving late or waiting at the wrong pick-up point, the immediate full refund when an operator cancels, the partner-set luggage and refund rules, partial cancellation availability, the three reasons seats differ in price within one bus, the accepted payment methods and India-only card restriction, the absence of phone booking and cash-on-delivery, the pay-for-someone-else answer, and the Smart Addons saved-preference behaviour with its stated safeguards are all AbhiBus's own published answers, quoted or paraphrased without adjustment.

What that means for what you can conclude. We read the published FAQ only: we did not book a ticket, board a bus, miss one, cancel one, claim a refund, carry luggage or contact customer support, so nothing here reports how any of these rules is applied in practice, how any individual bus operator behaves at a boarding point, or what any passenger's experience has been. AbhiBus is an aggregator and a great deal of what governs your journey — luggage limits, refund percentages, partial cancellation, seat pricing — is set by the individual bus partner and shown to you during booking; those partner terms prevail over anything general, and they differ operator by operator and route by route. We do not publish cancellation percentages, refund slabs or add-on prices here because they are partner- and booking-specific; the terms displayed to you while selecting your bus and on your ticket are the operative ones. FAQs change without notice, so verify on abhibus.com before travelling. Nothing here is legal advice, and nothing here limits or describes your rights under Indian consumer law. This page does not cover AbhiBus cancellation charges and the Free Cancellation add-on, AbhiCash wallet rules, Abhi Assured, or current coupon offers, each of which is documented separately. No wrongdoing by AbhiBus or any bus partner is alleged or implied.

The short version

Two short clocks decide your booking. You get 10 minutes to pay after selecting seats before they are released, and you must reach the pick-up point 15 minutes before departure with a government photo ID, which is mandatory.

Late is not refundable. AbhiBus refunds up to 100% for a missed bus only where the fault is its own or the operator's — arriving late or waiting at the wrong pick-up point is explicitly excluded. Where the operator cancels, it refunds in full.

The operator writes most of the rules. Luggage allowances, refund conditions, partial cancellation and why two seats on one bus cost different amounts are all the bus partner's, shown while you choose the bus. And on repeat bookings, check the fare breakdown — saved preferences can pre-select paid add-ons.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have to pay for an AbhiBus ticket after selecting seats?
Ten minutes. AbhiBus states that payment for any booking has to be completed within 10 minutes of selecting your seats, and that if you do not, the order is annulled or void and the seats are released for others to book. The clock starts at seat selection rather than at checkout, so it is worth deciding your route, boarding point and passenger details and having your payment method ready before you pick seats — particularly on busy routes, where a released seat may be taken by the time you start again. AbhiBus separately advises booking at least two hours before scheduled departure.
Is ID proof mandatory when boarding an AbhiBus booking?
Yes. The FAQ states it is mandatory to carry government issued identity proof along with your e-ticket. Every passenger needs their own ID, including on a booking paid for by someone else — AbhiBus confirms the payer does not have to travel, but asks that all travellers carry government issued ID cards to avoid problems at boarding. You should reach the pick-up point a minimum of 15 minutes before departure with your SMS confirmation, or a ticket printout where the partner requires one. For most bus partners the emailed confirmation serves as the boarding pass, and AbhiBus says it does not oversell schedules, so it guarantees a seat on the ticketed service.
What is the AbhiBus luggage allowance?
There isn't one set by AbhiBus. The FAQ says every bus partner has its own rules on the amount of luggage allowed, the luggage space available, and extra payments for boxes, and it directs passengers to its 24/7 customer support for the rules of a specific operator. This is the general pattern on AbhiBus: it is the booking layer, while the operator sets the travel rules. The same applies to refund conditions, which each partner sets and which are displayed while you are choosing the bus as well as on the ticket printout and email. If you are carrying oversized bags or cartons, confirm the operator's rule before the day of travel rather than at the door of the bus.
Why do two seats on the same AbhiBus bus cost different amounts?
AbhiBus gives three reasons, all of them the operator's choice rather than a pricing error. First, some buses carry both AC and non-AC sections in the same vehicle. Second, some carry both seater and sleeper berths, which are priced differently. Third, some bus partners simply price the front rows higher than the back rows. AbhiBus also states that it does not charge anything extra compared with buying offline — the ticket is at the same cost the travel partner has priced it at, so the variation you see within one bus reflects the operator's own fare structure.
Will AbhiBus add paid extras to my booking automatically?
Not without showing you. If you have previously chosen “save for this and future booking”, AbhiBus stores those choices and pre-selects add-on benefits on your next booking to save time. Its stated safeguards are that you are not charged automatically, that you will always see the total cost and a list of all items in your fare details before you confirm and pay, and that you can unselect any pre-selected add-on during checkout. To change this permanently, use the Preferences section in your account profile; to turn it off altogether, disable Smart Addons or “save for future bookings” in account settings. In practice, the useful habit is to read the fare breakdown before paying, since a pre-ticked default is not necessarily the cheapest booking.
