There is a simple question behind most festive-season searching right now - when does the sale start and what will things cost - and on 2 October 2026 the two biggest Indian retailers answer it very differently on their own websites. Flipkart has printed its dates and roughly nineteen prices. Amazon has printed blanks.

Amazon's Great Indian Festival page is live, but it carries no date anywhere in its text and its headline tiles read 'Samsung | Starting Rs. _ _, _ _ 9' - the underscores are Amazon's own. Flipkart's store page states early access from midnight on 8 October and general access from 9 October. Below: exactly what each page says, and what you can and cannot plan around.

📅 Update log:
2 October 2026 — first published. Amazon's Great Indian Festival page (amazon.in/greatindianfestival, which redirects to amazon.in/events/greatindianfestival), Flipkart's Big Billion Days store page and Flipkart's Early Bird store page were all read on the afternoon of 2 October 2026 with scrapling, logged out, in India, with nothing purchased. At that moment Amazon's page contained no date and no unmasked price; Flipkart's contained both. This page will be updated when Amazon publishes a Great Indian Festival 2026 date or an unmasked price on its own page, and the comparison above should be read as a dated snapshot rather than a standing claim.

What each retailer has actually published, as of 2 October 2026

We read three pages this afternoon - Amazon's Great Indian Festival page and Flipkart's Big Billion Days and Early Bird store pages - with one question: what has each company committed to in print? The answer is lopsided enough to be worth a page of its own.

Flipkart has published its dates and roughly nineteen rupee figures. Amazon has published neither. Amazon's festival page carries no date anywhere in its text - the words 'October' and 'starts' do not appear on it at all - and its headline price teasers have the digits deliberately blanked out, reading 'Samsung | Starting Rs. _ _, _ _ 9' and 'Intel Laptops | Starting Rs._ _,_99'.

Neither approach is wrong, and nothing here suggests otherwise - a masked teaser is an ordinary marketing device and retailers announce on their own schedules. But if you are searching for a Great Indian Festival date today, it is worth knowing that the answer does not yet exist on Amazon's own page, and that anyone publishing one is not getting it from there.

Read this before you read anything else about GIF dates. Amazon's own Great Indian Festival page carried no date of any kind when we read it on the afternoon of 2 October 2026. We are not predicting one, and we would treat any specific GIF 2026 date you see elsewhere today as unsourced until Amazon publishes it.

Amazon's page: a live festival page with the numbers taken out

The Great Indian Festival page is up and it is clearly a festival page. What it is not is informative about when or how much. Its two headline tiles read 'Samsung | Starting Rs. _ _, _ _ 9' and 'Intel Laptops | Starting Rs._ _,_99' - the underscores are Amazon's, and they are a countdown device: you are being told the shape of a price without being told the price.

You can read something from the shape. Both teasers end in 9 and both reserve five digits, so Amazon is signalling five-figure pricing on Samsung devices and Intel laptops. That is as far as the page goes, and as far as we will go with it.

The rest is a product rail with real models on it and no event pricing attached: a OnePlus Pad 2, a Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, Meta Ray-Ban Gen 2 smart glasses, a Visio World 40-inch QLED, a Haier 6 kg washing machine, KENT and Aquaguard water purifiers, and several 1.5-ton five-star split ACs from Hitachi, Lloyd, Sharp, LG and others. Those names tell you which aisles Amazon intends to push. They do not tell you what anything will cost.

Two category claims do appear: 'Up to 35% off on Medicines' and 'Up to 75% off | Global brands'. Both are ceilings across an unstated number of products rather than prices, and we have not verified how many items sit at either figure.

Flipkart's page: dates in print, and about nineteen prices with asterisks

Flipkart's Big Billion Days store page carries its schedule as plain prose: 'Early Access (Flipkart Plus, VIP Members & Flipkart credit card holders): Starts October 8, 2026, at midnight. General Public Access: Starts October 9, 2026.' Those are its own words, and they have been consistent since we first read that page in late September.

It also names prices before the sale opens, which is unusual and useful. iPhone 17 from Rs. 79,999*, Samsung Galaxy Book4 Core i3 at Rs. 47,990*, Core i5 at Rs. 54,990*, Core i7 at Rs. 64,990*, Book5 AI at Rs. 71,990* and Rs. 77,990*, Motorola Edge 70 Fusion from Rs. 29,999*, trolley combos from Rs. 2,299*, Hero Xtreme 125R from Rs. 84,700* and Hero Splendor+ from Rs. 71,048*. Every one of those asterisks is Flipkart's own.

An asterisk on Flipkart's own page generally limits a figure to selected variants, selected sellers, selected windows or stated card conditions, and we have not checked any of these at a checkout. They are prices Flipkart advertises, not prices we paid or saw charged.

One more thing is live on Flipkart today and worth separating out: the Early Bird sale, running since 24 September 2026, which is a different event from BBD with its own named prices. We covered that separately this morning, including the fact that the same iPhone 17 appears at Rs. 77,999 on the Early Bird page with a Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card condition attached.

The practical read: Flipkart's named figures give you a baseline you can hold it to on 9 October. Amazon has given you nothing to hold it to, so the only honest preparation for GIF is to note today's ordinary prices on the things you want and compare later - not to wait on a date nobody has published.

What this means if you are planning a festive purchase

  • Do not plan around an Amazon GIF date today. Amazon has not published one on its own festival page. Any specific date circulating now is not sourced from there.
  • Flipkart's 8 and 9 October dates are safe to plan around, because they are stated on Flipkart's own store page rather than inferred - early access from midnight on the 8th for Plus, VIP and Flipkart credit card holders, everyone else from the 9th.
  • Write down what you would pay today. This is the one preparation that works regardless of what either retailer announces. A festival price only means something against the price the same listing carried a week earlier.
  • Treat 'up to' claims as ceilings, not offers. Amazon's 'up to 75% off | Global brands' and Flipkart's 'up to 90% off' both describe the deepest discount on an unstated number of products, which may be very few.
  • Check which aisles each is pushing. Amazon's rail is weighted to tablets, phones, smart glasses, washing machines, water purifiers and split ACs; Flipkart's named prices are weighted to phones, laptops, luggage and two-wheelers. That is a real signal about where each will be most aggressive.

The honest limits of this comparison

This page compares disclosure, not value. It does not say Flipkart will be cheaper than Amazon during the festive season, and nothing in what we read would support that claim - a retailer that publishes prices early is telling you more, not necessarily charging less.

It is also a snapshot. Amazon could publish its dates and prices an hour after this page goes up, and if it does, this comparison is out of date in exactly the way a dated reading should be. We have stamped it accordingly and will update it when Amazon's own page changes.

And we did not log in. Amazon personalises heavily, so a signed-in session or the app may surface content this logged-out read did not. We cannot rule that out and are not claiming the page is empty for everyone - only that it was empty of dates and unmasked prices for us, in India, logged out, on the afternoon of 2 October 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Amazon Great Indian Festival 2026?
Amazon has not published a date. We read amazon.in/greatindianfestival on the afternoon of 2 October 2026, logged out, in India, and the page contains no date anywhere in its text - the words 'October' and 'starts' do not appear on it at all. The page is live and clearly a festival page, but it carries only masked price teasers ('Samsung | Starting Rs. _ _, _ _ 9'), a product rail with no event pricing, and two 'up to' category claims. We are not predicting a date, and we would treat any specific GIF 2026 date circulating today as unsourced until it appears on Amazon's own page. By contrast, Flipkart has published its Big Billion Days dates in print: early access from midnight on 8 October 2026, general access from 9 October 2026.
Why are the prices on Amazon's festival page showing as blanks?
Because Amazon has masked the digits on purpose, as a countdown device. Its two headline tiles read 'Samsung | Starting Rs. _ _, _ _ 9' and 'Intel Laptops | Starting Rs._ _,_99' - the underscores are Amazon's own. The shape is the only information on offer: both reserve five digits and both end in 9, which signals five-figure pricing on Samsung devices and Intel laptops and nothing more specific than that. This is an ordinary and entirely legitimate marketing device and nothing here suggests otherwise; it simply means the page cannot be used to plan a purchase yet.
Has Flipkart announced its Big Billion Days 2026 dates?
Yes, in print on its own store page. flipkart.com/big-billion-days-store states: 'Early Access (Flipkart Plus, VIP Members & Flipkart credit card holders): Starts October 8, 2026, at midnight. General Public Access: Starts October 9, 2026.' We read that on 2 October 2026 and it has been consistent on the page since late September. Separately, Flipkart's Early Bird sale has been running since 24 September 2026 under its own store page - so there is a Flipkart sale live today, and it is not the Big Billion Days. The homepage footer still described BBD as 'Upcoming' when we read it.
Which prices has Flipkart named for the Big Billion Days?
About nineteen, each carrying Flipkart's own asterisk. The ones it states outright include the iPhone 17 from Rs. 79,999*, Samsung Galaxy Book4 Core i3 at Rs. 47,990*, Core i5 at Rs. 54,990* and Core i7 at Rs. 64,990*, Book5 AI at Rs. 71,990* and Rs. 77,990*, the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion from Rs. 29,999*, trolley combos from Rs. 2,299*, the Hero Xtreme 125R from Rs. 84,700* and the Hero Splendor+ from Rs. 71,048*. An asterisk on Flipkart's page generally limits a figure to selected variants, sellers, windows or card conditions. We did not add anything to a basket, reach a checkout or verify any of these on a product page - they are the figures Flipkart advertises, not prices we observed or paid.
Should I buy on Flipkart's Big Billion Days or wait for Amazon's festival?
This page cannot answer that, and it is worth being plain about why: it compares what each retailer has disclosed, not what either will charge. Flipkart has published dates and about nineteen prices; Amazon has published neither. That makes Flipkart's offer easier to plan around, but a retailer that announces early is not necessarily the cheaper one, and we have no Amazon festival pricing to compare against because none exists yet. The one preparation that works either way is to record what the specific items you want cost today, so that whatever gets announced can be measured against a real baseline rather than against a stated MRP. Prices and dates are set by each retailer, can change without notice, and the price at your checkout prevails.

Every quoted string, date, rupee figure, percentage, product name and brand on this page was read on the afternoon of 2 October 2026 from the retailers' own pages - amazon.in's Great Indian Festival page at amazon.in/greatindianfestival, which redirects to amazon.in/events/greatindianfestival, and Flipkart's store pages at flipkart.com/big-billion-days-store and flipkart.com/early-bird-deals-store - logged out, in India, with nothing purchased. We did not sign in, add any item to a basket, reach a checkout page, apply any coupon or bank offer, or hold or apply for any card or credit product named here, so no figure on this page is a price we observed at checkout or paid; each is a price Flipkart advertises, and every rupee figure marked with an asterisk carries Flipkart's own asterisk, which in its usual reading limits the price to selected variants, selected sellers, selected windows or stated card conditions. Because we read these pages logged out, a signed-in session, a different region or the mobile apps may show content we did not see, and we make no claim about what either page displays to any other reader. The statement that Amazon had not published a Great Indian Festival 2026 date or an unmasked price is a description of what its own page contained at that moment and is expressly not a prediction that no sale will happen, not a claim that no date exists elsewhere, and not a criticism of Amazon - masking price digits in a teaser and announcing on a chosen schedule are ordinary, legitimate marketing practices. Nothing on this page is an allegation of misleading advertising, dark patterns, unfair trade practice or any breach of the Consumer Protection Act or its e-commerce rules, the Legal Metrology Act, the Advertising Standards Council of India code, or any other law, rule, code or platform policy by Amazon Seller Services Private Limited, by Flipkart Internet Private Limited, or by Apple, Samsung, Motorola, Intel, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Redmi, Meta, Haier, KENT, Aquaguard, Hitachi, Lloyd, Sharp, LG, Hero, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank or any other brand, bank or seller named or unnamed, and no wrongdoing is alleged or implied. Sale dates, early-access rules, deal formats, prices and bank offers are set by each retailer and by the respective brands, banks and sellers, can be changed or withdrawn by them without notice, and may differ by city, by seller, by variant, by payment method and by account; the price and terms shown at your checkout prevail over anything here. Category-level claims such as 'up to 75% off', 'up to 35% off' and 'up to 90% off' are the retailers' own and describe a ceiling across an unstated number of listings rather than any individual product, and we have not verified the number of products at any stated percentage. Flipkart Plus, VIP membership, Flipkart credit cards and any EMI or pay-later facility referred to here are products of Flipkart and its financing partners; nothing on this page is financial advice, credit advice, or a recommendation to apply for, take or use any card, loan, EMI facility or buy-now-pay-later product. We have not handled, bought, unboxed or tested any product named on this page, and nothing here is a statement about any product's quality, specification, performance or fitness for any purpose. Product photographs in the banner are listing images previously published by retailers for products in the categories these festive pages cover and are illustrative only; they are not variants priced by either retailer and may be styled or retouched. This page is a dated snapshot and will be updated when Amazon's own page changes.
