An extended warranty is sold at the till in about ninety seconds, which is not long enough to read the terms. Vijay Sales publishes them, and the headline number — four additional years — turns out to be the best case rather than the offer.
The governing rule is that your brand warranty and VS+ together cannot exceed five years, so every year the manufacturer already gives you is a year of VS+ you cannot buy. For phones and tablets the cap is lower still. Below: the full arithmetic with Vijay Sales' own example, the word that defines what is covered, the value ceiling on unlimited repairs, and the 30-day window to change your mind. Quoted as Vijay Sales printed it on 3 October 2026.
Brand warranty + VS+ cannot exceed 5 years in total
Mobiles and tablets: 1 additional year only
Organic failure only — damage, liquid and power surges are excluded
📅 Update log:
3 October 2026 — first published. vijaysales.com/faqs was read on 3 October 2026 with a rendered fetch, logged out, in India, with nothing purchased, no plan bought, no service request filed and nothing repaired. 452 lines of text were recovered, of which the VS+ Extended Warranty block is roughly sixty. Every rule, term and quoted phrase is Vijay Sales' own published text as it read on that date and can be changed without notice. The FAQ itself states that the 'Full set of terms and conditions are available on' a separate page, so the terms issued with your plan prevail over anything summarised here. Plan pricing is by device price band and is not published in the FAQ.
"Up to 4 additional years" means five years in total, including the brand's
The headline on VS+ Extended Warranty is four extra years. The condition attached to it is in a different answer, and it changes what the product is.
'You can opt to protect your device for up to 4 additional years... the total term of the manufacturers' warranty and term of VS+ Extended Warranty does not exceed 5 year.'
Vijay Sales works the arithmetic itself, which is to its credit: 'For e.g.: If your Air Conditioner has 1 year manufacturers' warranty, you can opt for VS+ Extended Warranty for up to 4 additional years. However, if your Air Conditioner comes with 2 years manufacturers' warranty, you can opt for VS+ Extended Warranty for maximum 3 additional years.'
The consequence is counter-intuitive: the stronger the warranty your brand already gives you, the less extended cover you are allowed to buy. A product with a generous three-year brand warranty can take two years of VS+ at most. The plan is not adding four years to whatever you have; it is topping you up to a five-year ceiling.
There is also an eligibility floor working the other way: 'The device needs to have minimum 12 months' manufacturer's warranty that is applicable in India.' Anything with a shorter brand warranty cannot be covered at all.
| Your device's brand warranty | Maximum VS+ term, per the published rule | Total cover |
|---|
| Less than 12 months | Not eligible | — |
| 1 year | Up to 4 additional years | 5 years |
| 2 years | Up to 3 additional years | 5 years |
| 3 years | Up to 2 additional years | 5 years |
| 4 years | Up to 1 additional year | 5 years |
| Mobile phone or tablet (any brand warranty) | 1 additional year only | Capped by category, not by the 5-year rule |
Phones and tablets are the exception that catches people out. Asked directly — 'Can I extend the warranty on my phone for 2 more years?' — the FAQ answers: 'VS+ Extended Warranty is available for 1 additional year on Mobile Phones and Tablets.' Not two, not four. For the category most buyers associate with extended warranties, the maximum on offer is a single year.
What it covers, and the word doing all the work
VS+ is an extended warranty, not insurance, and the FAQ draws that line explicitly.
'VS+ Extended Warranty covers every issue in the device that occurs organically or in simple terms "on its own" and without any external factor. That means issues like physical damage, liquid damage, power surges etc. are outside the scope of the program.'
'Organically' is the whole definition. A compressor that fails is covered; a screen you dropped is not; a board killed by a voltage spike is not — which is worth noting in a country where surge damage to appliances is common enough that stabilisers are a product category.
Three further exclusions sit alongside it. 'Malfunction should not be on account of normal wear and tear', with mixer and juicer blade breakage given as an example. 'Malfunctioning accessories or consumable items like filters for water purifiers are not covered here.' And modifying the device, having it repaired by an unauthorised party or using it commercially 'void the manufacturer's warranty and subsequently VS+ Extended Warranty as well'.
What is covered is described generously. The service is 'powered by OnsiteGo (Onsite Electro Services Private Limited)', Vijay Sales states it bears 'all the costs required to fix it', and cover follows the device abroad: 'If the device breaks down abroad, we will still cover it. You can get it back to India, we will provide our usual Pick – Repair – Deliver back to you service.' Devices bought outside India are not covered at all.
Unlimited repairs, up to the value of the device
The repair terms are the strongest part of the published offer, and they have a ceiling that is stated clearly.
'There is no limit on the number of service requests you can raise against VS+ Extended Warranty. We will keep repairing the device till the total costs of all repairs do not exceed the value of the device. However if for any 1 Service Request, the cost of repairs is greater than the current/last available market value of the device, the device will be replaced.'
So the cap is cumulative and measured against the device's value, and a single repair that would cost more than the device is worth triggers a replacement instead. What you get in that case is qualified: 'we will provide you with an equal or equivalent replacement device which may or may not be a new piece.' The FAQ also notes that replacement can come 'in the form of new or refurbished device or Gift Cards'.
A detail about how 'value' is assessed is worth flagging because the wording changes mid-sentence: the cumulative cap is against 'the value of the device' while the single-repair test is against 'the current/last available market value'. A four-year-old television's current market value is not what you paid for it, which is the practical shape of this cap in year five.
Filing a claim, cancelling the plan, and the paperwork, in Vijay Sales' words
All read from vijaysales.com/faqs on 3 October 2026.
- Report within 7 days: the FAQ instructs customers to contact them 'within 7 days and tell us about malfunction that has occurred'.
- What you need: 'You don't have to submit any other document or fill up any forms except for the invoice copy', and 'Ensure that the IMEI/Serial Number on your device matches the one that is mentioned on the purchase invoice.'
- If the serial number changed: 'If the IMEI/Serial Number has changed on account of repairs or exchange by your retailer or the service centre, please provide us with a Swap Letter.'
- Cancellation: 'The VS+ Extended Warranty plan can be cancelled within 30 days, provided you have not already filed a Service Request. Also, a refund for the same will issued.'
- Home visit or pick-up: 'For Large Appliances and Televisions, we will co-ordinate with Service Centres and send a technician home based on your convenience. Wherever it is not possible to send the technician home for repairs, we will pick them up.'
- Repairing it yourself: 'Yes, you can get the device repaired on your own. Please keep in mind that we need to be informed about the damage BEFORE submitting the device to the nearest Authorised Service Centre.'
- Preventive maintenance: 'If you have opted for a 2 year VS+ Extended Warranty, you will be entitled for 2 preventive maintenance check-ups' — one per year of cover.
- No stacking: 'The device for which VS+ Extended Warranty has been purchased should not have any other Care Pack/Insurance or Insurance linked plan/Extended Warranty/Maintenance Contract, apart from the manufacturer's warranty.'
- Jurisdiction: 'The courts of Mumbai shall have the exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising hereunder.'
Which products VS+ covers
The category list is published in full and is broader than most retailer plans: 'VS+ Extended Warranty offers coverage for all your Mobiles, Tablets, Laptops, Cameras, Air Conditioners, Washing Machines, Televisions Refrigerators, Audio Systems, Home Theatres, Desktops, Microwaves, Dishwashers, Dryers, Printers, Room Coolers & Water Purifiers.'
Two of those come with the caveats above attached. Mobiles and tablets are capped at one additional year regardless of the five-year rule, and water purifiers are on the list while their filters are explicitly not covered — which, on a water purifier, is the part that needs replacing most often.
The plan has to be bought with the device: 'Buy VS+ Extended Warranty along with your device and ensure that you are buying the right plan based on the price of your device.' Pricing is by device price band and the FAQ does not publish the bands, so the cost is a checkout question.
Five questions to ask before buying the plan
- What is the brand warranty on this exact model? It decides how much VS+ you can buy, because the two together cannot exceed five years, and anything under 12 months of brand warranty is not eligible at all.
- Is it a phone or tablet? If so the answer is one additional year, whatever the plan is called.
- What is likely to go wrong with this category? VS+ covers organic failure only — physical damage, liquid damage and power surges are named exclusions, and so is normal wear and tear.
- Are the consumables covered? On a water purifier they are not: filters are named as an excluded consumable, and the FAQ says 'a full list of these items is available on our website'.
- What does the plan cost against the device price? Pricing is by price band and is not published in the FAQ. You have 30 days to change your mind, 'provided you have not already filed a Service Request'.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many years does VS+ Extended Warranty actually add?
Up to four, but only if your brand warranty is a single year. 'The total term of the manufacturers' warranty and term of VS+ Extended Warranty does not exceed 5 year.' Vijay Sales gives its own example: 'If your Air Conditioner has 1 year manufacturers' warranty, you can opt for VS+ Extended Warranty for up to 4 additional years. However, if your Air Conditioner comes with 2 years manufacturers' warranty, you can opt for VS+ Extended Warranty for maximum 3 additional years.' So the better your brand cover, the less VS+ you can buy. There is also a floor: 'The device needs to have minimum 12 months' manufacturer's warranty that is applicable in India.' Read from vijaysales.com/faqs on 3 October 2026.
Can I extend my phone's warranty by more than a year at Vijay Sales?
No. Asked exactly that, the FAQ answers: 'VS+ Extended Warranty is available for 1 additional year on Mobile Phones and Tablets.' The four-year figure in the headline applies to other categories subject to the five-year total cap; phones and tablets are limited by category rather than by that arithmetic. Mobiles and tablets are on the covered list alongside laptops, cameras, air conditioners, washing machines, televisions, refrigerators, audio systems, home theatres, desktops, microwaves, dishwashers, dryers, printers, room coolers and water purifiers.
Does VS+ Extended Warranty cover a cracked screen or water damage?
No. 'VS+ Extended Warranty covers every issue in the device that occurs organically or in simple terms "on its own" and without any external factor. That means issues like physical damage, liquid damage, power surges etc. are outside the scope of the program.' It is an extended warranty rather than device insurance, and the distinction is the whole product. Also excluded: normal wear and tear — 'Breakage of the blades of a Mixer or Juicer' is the example given — and 'Malfunctioning accessories or consumable items like filters for water purifiers'. Modifying the device, having it repaired by an unauthorised party or using it commercially 'void the manufacturer's warranty and subsequently VS+ Extended Warranty as well'.
How many times can a device be repaired under VS+?
There is no numerical limit, but there is a value one. 'There is no limit on the number of service requests you can raise against VS+ Extended Warranty. We will keep repairing the device till the total costs of all repairs do not exceed the value of the device. However if for any 1 Service Request, the cost of repairs is greater than the current/last available market value of the device, the device will be replaced.' Note the wording of the replacement: 'we will provide you with an equal or equivalent replacement device which may or may not be a new piece', and elsewhere, 'Replacement is provided in the form of new or refurbished device or Gift Cards'. Note also that the single-repair test is against 'current/last available market value', which on a four- or five-year-old appliance is a lower number than you paid.
Can I cancel a VS+ Extended Warranty plan and get a refund?
Within 30 days, if you have not claimed. 'The VS+ Extended Warranty plan can be cancelled within 30 days, provided you have not already filed a Service Request. Also, a refund for the same will issued.' Two other timings are worth knowing: a breakdown should be reported 'within 7 days', and the only paperwork needed to claim is the invoice — 'You don't have to submit any other document or fill up any forms except for the invoice copy' — with the IMEI or serial number on it matching the device. The service is 'powered by OnsiteGo (Onsite Electro Services Private Limited)' and the FAQ states that 'The courts of Mumbai shall have the exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising hereunder.'

This page summarises and quotes Vijay Sales' own published FAQ at vijaysales.com/faqs, read on 3 October 2026, logged out, in India. We did not buy a device, buy a VS+ Extended Warranty plan, file a service request, have anything repaired or replaced, or cancel a plan; nothing here is a report of any transaction or of how any term was applied in any individual case. Every term, period, exclusion and quoted phrase is Vijay Sales' own text reproduced as published on that date and may be changed by Vijay Sales (INDIA) Private Limited or by Onsite Electro Services Private Limited (OnsiteGo) at any time without notice. The FAQ states that a full set of terms and conditions is published separately, and those terms, together with the plan document issued to you, prevail over this page and over the FAQ. Plan pricing is by device price band and is not published in the FAQ, so costs must be confirmed at the point of sale. Exclusion lists quoted here are stated by Vijay Sales to be non-exhaustive - 'please note this is not a comprehensive list'. Nothing here alleges that Vijay Sales (INDIA) Private Limited, Onsite Electro Services Private Limited or any manufacturer has acted improperly, unfairly or unlawfully, or has breached the Consumer Protection Act, the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority Act or any other law, rule or regulation; capping total cover, excluding accidental and liquid damage, excluding consumables and limiting repair spend to the value of the device are ordinary and lawful features of extended warranty products, and VS+ is presented by Vijay Sales as an extended warranty rather than as insurance. Nothing on this page is legal, financial or insurance advice, and it does not describe or limit any statutory right you may have as a consumer in India, or any right under a manufacturer's warranty, both of which exist independently of any retailer's published policy. Product photographs used in the banner are retailers' own catalogue images of items in the categories discussed and are illustrative only; no product shown is being reviewed or recommended here, and no product shown is stated to be covered by any particular plan.
