A bottle of floor cleaner tells you how many millilitres are in it. It does not tell you what a litre costs. We read 34 household cleaning listings on 27 October 2026 from Amazon's own search results and divided the 12 that state a volume.
Those 12 run Rs. 45 to Rs. 2,370 a litre. And five listings carry stated MRPs that are exact multiples of ten or twenty times their price - the signature of a misplaced decimal, generating the deepest badges on the shelf. They are excluded from every percentage here.

The floor is a 10-litre dishwash concentrate at Rs. 448 - Rs. 45 a litre. The ceiling is a 200 ml air freshener at Rs. 474, which is Rs. 2,370 a litre and 53 times the rate for Rs. 26 more money.
Those two are not substitutes - a concentrate is diluted before use and a fragrance spray is not - and that is exactly why a per-litre figure is a starting point rather than a verdict. Within a category it is sharper: the three dishwash liquids in this read sit at Rs. 45, Rs. 192 and Rs. 198 a litre, which is a real four-fold gap between comparable products.
Concentrates, dilutions and aerosols are not comparable by volume. A 10 L concentrate that makes many times its own volume of cleaning solution and a 200 ml ready-to-use fragrance spray are different purchases, and no rate per litre captures dilution ratio, active ingredient concentration or how far a bottle goes. We have not used, diluted or tested anything on this page.
Five stated MRPs that cannot be right
| Listing | Selling price | Stated MRP | Multiple | Badge it generates |
|---|
| Domestos Toilet Cleaner, Pink Magnolia | Rs. 124 | Rs. 2,480 | exactly 20x | 95% |
| Pee Safe Toilet Seat Sanitizer Spray | Rs. 199 | Rs. 1,990 | exactly 10x | 90% |
| Glade Touch & Fresh Aerosol Air Freshener | Rs. 119 | Rs. 991 | 8.3x | 88% |
| Glade Touch 'N' Fresh Wild Lavender Refill | Rs. 119 | Rs. 991 | 8.3x | 88% |
| Glade Touch and Fresh Floral Perfume | Rs. 119 | Rs. 991 | 8.3x | 88% |
A Rs. 124 toilet cleaner states an MRP of Rs. 2,480 - exactly twenty times. A Rs. 199 sanitiser spray states Rs. 1,990 - exactly ten times. Three air freshener listings at Rs. 119 each state Rs. 991.
Exact round multiples of ten and twenty are the signature of a decimal-point error in the MRP field, not of a product that once sold for twenty times its current price. The badges those five figures generate - 88% to 95% - are the deepest on the shelf, and all five are excluded from every percentage quoted on this page.
We are not alleging that anyone entered a wrong figure deliberately, and nothing here alleges wrongdoing by Amazon or by any brand or seller named. Data-entry errors in a marketplace catalogue are ordinary. The practical point for a shopper is that a 95% badge on a household cleaner is far more likely to be a typo than a bargain.
With those five removed, the shelf is unremarkable
Across the remaining 29 listings the badge runs 4% to 82% with a median of 50%, and the deepest credible figure is an 82% on a Rs. 178 baby liquid cleanser with 5,032 ratings behind it.
The evidence on this shelf is good: 28 of the 34 listings publish a rating and the median count is 1,253. That is better than most aisles, and it means the rating column here is worth more attention than the badge column.
Check the multiple, not the percentage. Divide the stated MRP by the selling price. If the answer is a round number like 10 or 20, the figure is almost certainly a decimal-point error and the badge beside it means nothing. If it is 1.2x or 2x, the badge is doing ordinary work. This one test caught five of 34 listings on this shelf, and it takes two seconds.
Three checks before buying cleaning products on Amazon
One: read the volume and divide, within a category. The three comparable dishwash liquids in this read sit at Rs. 45, Rs. 192 and Rs. 198 a litre. Two: check whether it is a concentrate. A cheap rate per litre on a concentrate and on a ready-to-use spray are not the same claim, and the dilution ratio is on the bottle, not on the tile.
Three: divide the MRP by the price before you trust a deep badge. Nothing on this page is a claim about efficacy, safety or fragrance - nothing was bought, opened or used. Household cleaners contain active chemicals; read the product's own safety, dilution and storage instructions, and keep them away from children. Prices change without notice - check the live listing before buying.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do cleaning products cost per litre on Amazon in 2026?
Across 34 household cleaning listings read on 27 October 2026 from Amazon's own search results, prices ran Rs. 99 to Rs. 777. Of those, 12 state a volume, and per litre they run Rs. 45 to Rs. 2,370 - a 53x spread. The cheapest litre was a 10 L dishwash concentrate at Rs. 448; the dearest a 200 ml air freshener at Rs. 474. Concentrates and ready-to-use sprays are not directly comparable by volume.
Why do some Amazon cleaning products show 95% off?
On this shelf, because the stated MRP looks like a decimal-point error. A Rs. 124 toilet cleaner states Rs. 2,480 - exactly twenty times - and a Rs. 199 sanitiser spray states Rs. 1,990, exactly ten times. Three air freshener listings at Rs. 119 each state Rs. 991. Exact round multiples are the signature of a misplaced decimal rather than a real former price, and the 88% to 95% badges they generate are the deepest on the shelf. We excluded all five from every percentage on this page and allege nothing about how the figures were entered.
What is a normal discount on cleaning products on Amazon?
With the five implausible MRPs removed, the remaining 29 listings in this read ran 4% to 82% off, with a median of 50%. The deepest credible badge was 82% on a Rs. 178 baby liquid cleanser with 5,032 ratings. A badge is arithmetic on the MRP a seller prints, so the useful test is to divide that MRP by the price and see whether the multiple is plausible.
Is a bigger bottle of cleaner cheaper on Amazon?
Generally yes within a category, and dramatically so at the top end. The 10-litre dishwash concentrate in this read works out at Rs. 45 a litre against Rs. 192 and Rs. 198 for 750 ml and 500 ml bottles of comparable products - a four-fold gap. But a concentrate is diluted before use and the small bottles are not, so the comparison is only fair between products of the same type. Dilution ratio and coverage are on the bottle, not on the listing tile.
Do Amazon cleaning product listings have reviews?
Most do, and well. 28 of the 34 listings in this read publish a rating and the median count is 1,253, which is better evidenced than most aisles. The best-rated listing on this page is a Rs. 144 coconut-based dishwash liquid with 4,629 ratings. A rating count measures how many people bought and rated something, not how well it cleans - nothing here was bought, opened or used.
Prices & codes last verified: October 27, 2026
Every selling price, stated MRP, discount badge, star average and rating count on this page was read from amazon.in's own search results on 27 October 2026, logged out, from India, with nothing bought. Nothing was purchased, delivered, opened, diluted or used, and no claim is made about cleaning efficacy, disinfectant action, fragrance, surface safety, skin or respiratory safety, biodegradability or coverage of any product. Household cleaners contain active chemicals: read each product's own safety, dilution and storage instructions, do not mix cleaning chemicals, and keep them away from children. Every per-litre figure is our own arithmetic: the selling price divided by the volume the listing's own title states, and a stated volume is the listing's claim rather than a verified measurement. Concentrates, dilutions, refills and ready-to-use sprays are not comparable by volume - dilution ratio, active-ingredient concentration and coverage are not captured by a rate per litre, so a high rate is not evidence of poor value. 22 of the 34 listings state no volume and are given no rate. Five listings whose stated MRP is eight or more times their selling price, including two that are exact multiples of ten and twenty, are described on this page as likely decimal-point errors and are excluded from every percentage quoted. That is our reading of the arithmetic and not a finding of fact: we do not assert that anyone entered a figure incorrectly or deliberately, and nothing here alleges wrongdoing by Amazon or by any brand or seller named. The 34 listings were reached by Amazon's own search and are not a census of what Amazon sells - results vary by query, ranking, login state, pin code and time of day, and sponsored placements were dropped. Prices change without notice and cart-level coupons and subscribe-and-save rates are not visible in this data - check the live listing before buying.
