We priced the same three winter searches on Amazon and Flipkart within the same hour on 26 October 2026 - room heaters, electric kettles and men's thermals - and matched every model that appears on both.
Eight models do, and five of them cost different money. On most of those, the two stores print the same stated MRP and charge different prices. On one kettle they print list prices Rs. 1,500 apart, which turns a 6% badge into a 60% badge over a Rs. 57 difference in what you actually pay.
📅 Update log:
26 Oct 2026: first published. Every price, stated MRP, badge, star average and rating count on this page was read from amazon.in's and flipkart.com's own search data within a single hour on 26 October 2026, logged out, from India - 62 Amazon listings and 191 Flipkart listings across the queries "room heater", "electric kettle" and "thermal wear men". One Amazon listing (a Rs. 2,349 Crompton convector claiming a Rs. 2,34,900 MRP) was excluded from every figure as a decimal-point error. Nothing was purchased and no product was tested.
The first properly cold week of the season is the week the heater and thermal shelves fill up. We priced the same three searches on both big marketplaces within the same hour on 26 October 2026 - "room heater", "electric kettle" and "thermal wear men" - and then looked for the models that appear on both.
Eight do, and on most of them the two stores print the same list price and charge different money for it. On one kettle they print list prices that differ by Rs. 1,500, which turns a 6% badge into a 60% one for a difference of Rs. 57 in what you actually pay.
Eight models sold on both sites, side by side
These are the listings we could match confidently by brand and model name across both stores in this read. Prices are what each site displayed on 26 October 2026; the stated MRP column is what each listing claims the product normally costs.
| Model | Amazon | Flipkart | Stated MRP | Cheaper on the day |
|---|
| Crompton COMFORT NEO 2000W fan/convector heater | Rs. 1,790 — 25% off | Rs. 1,385 — 42% off | Rs. 2,400 on both | Flipkart, by Rs. 405 |
| Crompton Insta Comfy 800W quartz heater | Rs. 1,370 — 40% off | Rs. 1,434 — 38% off | Rs. 2,300 on both | Amazon, by Rs. 64 |
| AGARO Elegant 1.8L double-layer kettle | Rs. 899 — 55% off | Rs. 1,209 — 40% off | Rs. 1,999 on both | Amazon, by Rs. 310 |
| Milton Rapid 1.8L 1500W kettle | Rs. 604 — 60% off | Rs. 604 — 60% off | Rs. 1,499 on both | Identical on both |
| Cookwell 1.5L multipurpose cook kettle | Rs. 1,089 — 56% off | Rs. 1,110 — 63% off | Rs. 2,500 vs Rs. 3,000 | Amazon, by Rs. 21 |
| XECH 300 ml portable mini kettle | Rs. 939 — 6% off | Rs. 996 — 60% off | Rs. 999 vs Rs. 2,499 | Amazon, by Rs. 57 |
| Dixcy Scott men's thermal | Rs. 250 — 50% off | Rs. 332 — 50% off | Rs. 499 vs Rs. 665 | Amazon, by Rs. 82 |
| Levi's thermal pyjama (037 / 100CA039) | Rs. 550 — 42% off | Rs. 550 — 42% off | Rs. 946 vs Rs. 949 | Identical on both |
Neither store wins. Of the eight matched models, Amazon is cheaper on five, Flipkart on one, and two are priced identically to the rupee. The gaps run from Rs. 0 to Rs. 405. What this rules out is the idea that one of these sites is structurally cheaper on winter goods - on the day we read them, the answer changed model by model.
The badge is store-specific, even when the product is not
Look at the Crompton Comfort Neo row again. Both stores claim the same Rs. 2,400 list price. Flipkart charges Rs. 1,385 and prints 42% off; Amazon charges Rs. 1,790 and prints 25% off. The badge difference is real and it is doing its job: the deeper badge is on the cheaper price.
Now look at the XECH mini kettle. Amazon states a Rs. 999 list price and charges Rs. 939 - a 6% badge. Flipkart states Rs. 2,499 and charges Rs. 996 - a 60% badge. The products are the same 300 ml portable kettle by the same brand, and the money that leaves your account differs by Rs. 57. Ten times the advertised saving, for 6% more money. The Cookwell kettle and the Dixcy Scott thermal show the same pattern in milder form: Rs. 2,500 against Rs. 3,000, and Rs. 499 against Rs. 665, for the same goods.
Compare the two selling prices, never the two badges. A stated MRP is a number each retailer publishes for its own listing; nothing requires two retailers to agree on it, and in this read they frequently do not. The only figure that is comparable across sites is what the cart asks for.
Shelf by shelf: what each store's winter aisle actually looks like
| Shelf | Amazon (26 Oct 2026) | Flipkart (26 Oct 2026) | What it means |
|---|
| Room heaters | 14 listings, median Rs. 1,899, median badge 34%, median stated MRP Rs. 3,100 | 70 listings, median Rs. 1,000, median badge 57%, median stated MRP Rs. 2,450 | Flipkart's median heater is Rs. 899 cheaper, on a shelf five times deeper |
| Electric kettles | 13 listings, median Rs. 899, median badge 53%, median stated MRP Rs. 1,699 | 55 listings, median Rs. 750, median badge 58%, median stated MRP Rs. 1,695 | Near-identical stated MRPs; Flipkart's median price is Rs. 149 lower |
| Men's thermals | 34 listings, median Rs. 570, median badge 21%, median stated MRP Rs. 814 | 66 listings, median Rs. 488, median badge 45%, median stated MRP Rs. 999 | Flipkart prints a stated MRP 23% higher and a badge more than twice as deep |
The medians favour Flipkart on all three shelves, but they are measuring different shelves: Flipkart returned 191 listings to Amazon's 62 across the same three queries, and the extra depth is almost entirely at the cheap end. Flipkart's heater shelf runs from Rs. 551; Amazon's starts at Rs. 899. A deeper shelf with a lower floor produces a lower median without anybody discounting anything, which is why the matched-model table above is the more honest comparison.
One store rates everything. The other leaves half the thermals blank.
| Rating coverage | Amazon | Flipkart |
|---|
| Listings publishing a star average and count | 61 of 61 (100%) | 128 of 191 (67%) |
| Men's thermals specifically | 34 of 34 rated | 19 of 66 rated — 47 publish nothing |
| Room heaters | 14 of 14 rated | 55 of 70 rated |
| Electric kettles | 13 of 13 rated | 54 of 55 rated |
| Largest single rating count in the read | Pigeon Amaze Plus kettle — 1,79,985 ratings | Pigeon Favourite kettle — 6,77,110 ratings |
This is the clearest structural difference between the two reads. Every one of the 61 usable Amazon listings publishes a star average and a rating count. On Flipkart, 63 of 191 publish neither - and the gap is concentrated almost entirely in apparel, where 47 of 66 men's thermal listings are unrated. If a review history matters to you on a Rs. 500 purchase, that is a real difference between the two shelves, and it is not visible until you look.
The Rs. 2,34,900 room heater, and why we dropped it
One Amazon listing in this read - a Crompton Insta Airohot convector at Rs. 2,349 - states an MRP of Rs. 2,34,900, producing a 99% badge. That is a hundred times the selling price and a misplaced decimal point rather than a discount. We excluded it from every median and range on this page and are naming it here rather than quietly dropping it.
No equivalent error appeared on the Flipkart side of this read. It is worth knowing that such errors exist on both marketplaces, because they are what produce the occasional 97-99% badge in a search result.
Buying either way: what to check before the badge
One: search the exact model name on both sites. Eight models in this read appear on both, and five of them cost different money. The price gaps - Rs. 405 on a heater, Rs. 310 on a kettle - are larger than any coupon likely to be available on either. Two: on a heater, read the wattage and the heating type before the price. Quartz, fan and oil-filled heaters are different products at similar prices; this read covers all three and we have tested none of them.
Three: check whether the listing has a rating at all - on Flipkart's thermal shelf most do not. Four: price the thermal set, not the piece. Several listings in both reads are top-only or pyjama-only, and several are sets; the titles say which, the prices do not.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are room heaters cheaper on Amazon or Flipkart in October 2026?
It depends on the model, not on the store. In this read of both sites on 26 October 2026, the Crompton Comfort Neo was Rs. 405 cheaper on Flipkart (Rs. 1,385 vs Rs. 1,790) while the Crompton Insta Comfy was Rs. 64 cheaper on Amazon (Rs. 1,370 vs Rs. 1,434) - both against identical stated MRPs. Flipkart's heater shelf has a lower median (Rs. 1,000 vs Rs. 1,899) mainly because it is five times deeper at the cheap end.
Why does the same product show a different discount on Amazon and Flipkart?
Because each retailer publishes its own stated MRP, and the badge is calculated against that. The XECH 300 ml mini kettle in this read is Rs. 939 on Amazon against a stated Rs. 999 - a 6% badge - and Rs. 996 on Flipkart against a stated Rs. 2,499 - a 60% badge. The actual price difference is Rs. 57, in Amazon's favour. Compare selling prices, not percentages.
Which site has more winter products?
Flipkart, substantially, in this read: 191 listings against Amazon's 62 across the same three queries - 70 heaters to 14, 55 kettles to 13 and 66 thermal listings to 34. The extra depth is concentrated at the cheap end, which is why Flipkart's medians are lower on all three shelves.
Do Flipkart listings show fewer reviews than Amazon's?
In this read, yes, and the gap is in apparel. All 61 usable Amazon listings publish a star average and rating count. On Flipkart, 63 of 191 publish neither - including 47 of the 66 men's thermal listings. Flipkart's electronics shelves are well-rated (54 of 55 kettles, 55 of 70 heaters); it is the clothing tiles that come back blank.
Is a 99% discount on a room heater real?
Almost never. One Amazon listing in this read, a Rs. 2,349 Crompton convector, states an MRP of Rs. 2,34,900 - a hundred times its price, which is a decimal-point error rather than a discount. We excluded it from every figure on this page. If a badge is in the high nineties, check the stated MRP against what the product plausibly costs before anything else.
Prices & codes last verified: October 26, 2026
Every price, stated MRP, discount badge, star average and rating count on this page was read from amazon.in's and flipkart.com's own search data on 26 October 2026, logged out, from India, within a single hour so that the two sides are comparable. Nothing was purchased, delivered, plugged in, worn or tested, and no claim is made about heating performance, wattage accuracy, build quality, safety, boiling time, fabric warmth, sizing, seller service or delivery. Models are matched by the brand and model name each listing publishes; we have not handled either unit, and two listings sharing a model name may differ in variant, colour, inclusions, warranty terms or seller. A stated MRP is the figure each retailer prints on its own listing; the two sites frequently print different figures for the same product, which is ordinary commerce - we report the difference and nothing here asserts that any such figure is false or improper, nor does anything here allege wrongdoing by Amazon, Flipkart, any seller or any brand named. One Amazon listing was excluded from every figure for an apparent decimal-point error in its stated MRP, which is a data mistake and not an allegation. Prices on both marketplaces change without notice and differ by pin code, seller and time of day - check both live listings before buying. Zoutons may earn a commission on purchases made through links on this page; this does not affect what is written above.
