The biggest discounts are on the laptops nobody has reviewed
We read Amazon India's laptop search results on 1 September 2026, logged out — 16 listings, 15 of them showing both a price and an MRP. Prices ran from Rs. 38,990 to Rs. 1,29,990 and discounts from 4 to 52 per cent.
Line the discounts up against the review counts and a pattern falls out. Four of the five listings at 46 per cent or more had fewer than 25 ratings — 24, 12, 4 and a single one. Meanwhile the most-reviewed laptop on the shelf, an Acer Aspire Lite with 905 ratings, was at 33 per cent, and the second most-reviewed, an ASUS Vivobook 16 with 148, was at 11.
That does not make the discounted machines bad. It means the badge is deepest exactly where you have the least independent information, so it should not be the thing you decide on.

What each price band actually holds
The shelf splits cleanly into four bands, and the jump from one to the next buys different things.
Under Rs. 45,000 you are in Ryzen 3 territory — two Acer Aspire models at Rs. 38,990 and Rs. 39,990, both with 8GB of RAM. ₹ The Rs. 59,990 Acer is the interesting one. At that price it is the only machine on this shelf pairing a Ryzen 5 with 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, and it is also the only listing with a review count in the hundreds — 905 ratings at 4.1. It is not the cheapest laptop here and not the most discounted.
Discount depth is a brand habit, not a deal signal
Split the same 15 listings by brand and the discounts sort themselves almost perfectly.
Every Lenovo listing is 36 per cent off or deeper, up to 52. No ASUS listing reaches 32 per cent, and three of the five are under 12. HP's two listings are 32 and 51; Acer's three run 25 to 46.
The Lenovo V15 shows what that does to the arithmetic. It sells at Rs. 72,999 against a stated MRP of Rs. 1,49,000 — the highest reference price anywhere on this shelf, higher than the actual price of the dearest laptop on it. We report that MRP as Amazon prints it and treat it as unverified, because a reference price above every real price on the shelf is not doing the work a reference price is supposed to do.
