Six of the steel water bottles and vacuum flasks compared on this page - three read on Flipkart and three on Amazon, including the Milton flask that costs the same on both - shown as they appear on their listing pages

Two platforms, one aisle, one afternoon. We read Amazon's steel water bottle and flask listings and Flipkart's on 17 September 2026 - 192 listings between them - and lined the numbers up.

One bottle does most of the explaining. Milton's Eiffel 1000 flask costs exactly Rs. 323 on both shelves, and the crossed-out number beside it differs by Rs. 70. Same flask, same money, two different stories about what you saved.

📅 Update log:
17 Sep 2026 — first published. Every price, MRP, badge, rating average and rating count on this page was read on 17 September 2026 from each platform's own search results, logged out, in India. Both catalogues change daily and the live listings are always authoritative; we re-read comparisons like this one periodically and log what has changed here.

The same flask, the same Rs. 323, and two different MRPs

Milton's Eiffel 1000 is a vacuum-insulated flask holding a stated 910 ml, and on 17 September 2026 it cost exactly the same on both platforms: Rs. 323.

The crossed-out number did not match. Amazon displayed a stated MRP of Rs. 435 and a 26 per cent badge. Flipkart displayed Rs. 505 and a 36 per cent badge. Same manufacturer, same model, same selling price, and a Rs. 70 difference in the figure each platform crossed out - which is as clean a demonstration as you will find that a displayed MRP is a number chosen by whoever is doing the displaying.

It also sets up the more useful comparison. If you judge these two shelves by their badges, Flipkart looks dramatically cheaper: a median discount badge of 57 per cent against Amazon's 25. If you judge them by what things actually cost, they are much closer than that, and on the listings both platforms carry, often identical.

Why Flipkart's badges are bigger (it is not the discounting)

The obvious explanation for a 57 per cent median against a 25 per cent one is that Flipkart is running harder promotions. Our pulls say otherwise.

Look at a single brand across both. Milton's median badge is 18 per cent on Amazon and 19 per cent on Flipkart, and on both shelves its stated MRPs are prices a shop could plausibly charge rather than multiples of the selling price. A brand with retail distribution and a price list to defend behaves the same way wherever it sells, because its own tills would contradict anything louder.

What differs is the tail. Flipkart's 137-listing shelf is full of labels most buyers have never heard of - Classic Essentials, AQUENCH, Apeiron, Prestlee, Snapple, Omichef, Kreme, TORIVA - typically selling at Rs. 160 to Rs. 500 against stated MRPs of Rs. 900 to Rs. 5,199. Amazon's 55-listing shelf is dominated by Milton, which alone accounts for well over half of it. Two catalogues, two compositions, and the badge median is measuring the composition rather than the generosity.

Boldfit 1 litre (Amazon)Rs. 24975% off a stated Rs. 9993.9 from 7,570

The Prestlee rows deserve a second look. The same product name - Tag Stainless Steel Water Bottle, 1000 ML - appears three times in our Flipkart pull at Rs. 245, Rs. 699 and Rs. 992, against stated MRPs of Rs. 1,299, Rs. 3,899 and Rs. 5,199, and all three carry the identical 3,155 ratings at 3.9. One review pool, three prices, three different fictional list prices, and badges of 81, 82 and 81 per cent. Whatever the differences between these listings are, the ratings are not telling you.

On evidence, the two shelves are much closer than the prices suggest

This is where the comparison gets genuinely surprising. Flipkart's reputation for a noisier catalogue does not translate into weaker feedback: the median rating count on its shelf is 3,155 against Amazon's 2,817, and its largest count, 189,607 on a Go24 thermosteel bottle, beats Amazon's largest, 152,670 on a Milton Flip Lid 500.

The one real gap is coverage. Every one of the 55 Amazon listings in our pull published a rating. Thirty-seven of Flipkart's 137 published none at all - and those 37 are concentrated exactly where the badges are loudest, among the unknown labels claiming 80 per cent and more.

So the practical rule differs by price band rather than by platform. On a bottle from a brand you recognise, either shelf gives you thousands of ratings to read. On a Rs. 250 flask from a name you have never seen, Flipkart is where you will find it, and it is also where you are most likely to find nothing published about it.

The three listings that appear on both shelves

Direct comparisons are limited by how little the two catalogues overlap at model level, but where they do, the pattern is consistent: the price matches and the presentation does not.

Beyond the Eiffel, the useful comparison is by brand. Go24 pexpo - an established Indian steelware maker - has four listings in our Amazon pull at a median badge of 46 per cent and sixteen in our Flipkart pull at a median of 25. Milton is at 18 per cent on both. In other words, the badge a brand carries varies more between listings of the same brand on one platform than it does between platforms.

How we counted

Both shelves were read once on 17 September 2026, logged out, from India. The Amazon figures come from 55 listings returned by two searches (steel water bottle 1 litre, vacuum insulated flask) after de-duplicating by ASIN; the Flipkart figures from 137 listings returned by the equivalent two searches. Medians are over those listings, not over either platform's full catalogue, and a different query on a different day would return a different set - Flipkart's larger count here reflects how many results its search returned, not a measurement of catalogue size. Discount badges are each platform's own displayed percentage. Rating counts are the figures each platform published against each listing at the moment we read them; both pool ratings across a product's variations, which is why one count can appear on several listings.

So where should you buy a steel bottle?

If you know which bottle you want and it is from Milton, Cello, Borosil or Go24, check both and buy wherever it is cheaper on the day - the difference will usually be small or zero, and the badge attached to it means nothing on either side. The Eiffel 1000 at Rs. 323 on both is the template.

If you are buying by price rather than by brand, Flipkart has the deeper cheap end: a median of Rs. 439 against Rs. 614, and thirty listings under Rs. 300 against Amazon's six. Just apply the same test you would anywhere - read the rating count first, and be aware that 37 of the 137 listings we read there publish nothing at all.

And on either platform, ignore the crossed-out number entirely. The same flask, at the same price, carried a Rs. 435 MRP on one shelf and a Rs. 505 MRP on the other. Only one of those numbers can describe reality, and in practice neither does.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Amazon or Flipkart cheaper for steel water bottles?
For the same bottle, usually neither. In our 17 September 2026 read, the Milton Eiffel 1000 was Rs. 323 on both platforms. Flipkart's shelf has a lower median price - Rs. 439 against Rs. 614 - but that reflects a much longer tail of sub-Rs. 300 listings from unknown labels rather than better prices on the bottles both platforms carry. If you know the model you want, check both; the difference on a branded bottle is typically small or nil.
Why does the same bottle show a different MRP on Amazon and Flipkart?
Because the displayed MRP is supplied by the seller and each platform displays what its own seller entered. The clearest case in our read is the Milton Eiffel 1000: Rs. 323 on both, with a stated MRP of Rs. 435 on Amazon and Rs. 505 on Flipkart, producing badges of 26 and 36 per cent for the identical purchase. The selling price is the only figure that describes what you pay.
Does a bigger discount on Flipkart mean a better deal?
No. Flipkart's median badge of 57 per cent against Amazon's 25 is a difference in catalogue composition, not in generosity: Milton's own listings show a median badge of 18 per cent on Amazon and 19 on Flipkart. The large percentages sit on unknown labels - a MarutiM flask at Rs. 325 claiming 85 per cent off a stated Rs. 2,199, an SSB Interprises flask at Rs. 250 claiming 83 per cent - and several of those listings publish no rating at all.
Which platform has more reliable ratings on this shelf?
They are closer than expected. The median rating count was 3,155 on Flipkart and 2,817 on Amazon, and Flipkart held the largest single count at 189,607 against Amazon's 152,670. The difference is coverage: every Amazon listing in our pull published a rating, while 37 of Flipkart's 137 published none. Both platforms pool ratings across a product's variations, so one count can cover several listings - a Prestlee bottle appears at three prices on Flipkart carrying the same 3,155 ratings.
What is a fair price for a steel water bottle in India?
Judged across both shelves on 17 September 2026: a plain single-walled one-litre steel bottle from a known brand runs Rs. 250 to Rs. 400, a vacuum-insulated litre flask Rs. 600 to Rs. 900, and small insulated flasks cost far more per litre because the wall, seal and lid cost the same whatever sits between them. Multipacks are the cheapest water of all - an Amazon three-pack in our read worked out at Rs. 236 a litre. Anything claiming 80 per cent off is telling you about its list price, not its value.
Prices & codes last verified: 17 September 2026
Every price, MRP, discount badge, rating average and rating count on this page was read on 17 September 2026 from amazon.in's and flipkart.com's own search results, as served to a logged-out visitor in India, with nothing bought, no account used and no coupon or bank offer applied on either platform. The Amazon figures are drawn from 55 listings and the Flipkart figures from 137; medians and counts describe those listings on that day and not either platform's full catalogue, and a different query on a different day would return a different set - the difference in listing counts reflects how many results each search returned rather than a measurement of catalogue size. Every capacity quoted is the volume a seller states in its own listing title; we have not measured a bottle. An MRP is the figure a listing displays, supplied by the seller rather than by the platform, and we have not verified that any bottle sold at it, so every percentage here is arithmetic over two numbers the seller chose rather than a measured saving; displaying a stated MRP is lawful and no wrongdoing by any platform, brand or seller is alleged or implied. Where the same stated MRP or rating count appears on several listings, we report that as what the listings displayed; pooling ratings across a product's variations is ordinary marketplace practice. Reporting that certain listings publish no rating is a statement about what a shopper can learn, not an assessment of those products or their sellers. Insulation performance, wall counts, ISI and BIS certification, leak-proofing and heat-retention claims are the sellers' listing text and were not verified - nothing here was filled, sealed, dropped or temperature-tested. Prices, listings and stock change without notice and can differ at checkout. Zoutons may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page; it does not change what you pay and does not affect what is reported here.
