Products from Dot & Key, Minimalist and Beardo in the brands' own product photography - three of the six Indian D2C return policies compared on this page

Six Indian direct-to-consumer brands, six return policies, read the same morning. The window to tell them something is wrong with your parcel runs from 48 hours to seven days - and every one of those clocks starts at delivery, not at the moment you open the box.

Five of the six will not take back a product you simply disliked, and the shortest clock on any of these pages belongs to mCaffeine's cancellation rule: three hours. Below: every window side by side, what each brand accepts, how fast the money comes back, and the one habit that keeps you inside all six policies.

📅 Update log:
1 October 2026 — first published. Written from six brands' own policy pages - beardo.in, dotandkey.com, beminimalist.co, mamaearth.in, mcaffeine.com and libas.in - all read on the morning of 1 October 2026; every quotation is the brand's own wording, reproduced as printed. No order was placed, cancelled or returned with any of them, and no timeline stated here has been tested.

Forty-eight hours to seven days, for the same problem

We read six Indian direct-to-consumer brands' own return policies on the morning of 1 October 2026 - Beardo, Dot & Key, Mamaearth, mCaffeine, Minimalist and Libas - and the single most useful number on each page is how long you have to say something went wrong. It runs from 48 hours to 7 days.

Dot & Key is the tightest: "you need to inform us within 48 hours of receipt of the products". mCaffeine gives 5 days. Beardo, Minimalist and Libas give 7. Mamaearth splits its own window and this is the one people miss: 7 days for a wrong or expired product, but only 2 days for a damaged or missing one - which is precisely the kind of problem a courier creates.

All six clocks start at delivery, not at the moment you open the box. That is the practical point of this page. A parcel that lands on a Friday evening and is opened on Sunday has already used two days of a Dot & Key window and all of Mamaearth's damage window.

The one-line version: whichever of these six you order from, open the parcel on delivery day and photograph anything wrong. Every window on this page is measured from delivery, and the shortest is 48 hours.

Five of the six will not take back a product you simply disliked

The beauty brands are fault-only, and they say so in almost identical terms. Beardo: "Products once delivered cannot be returned as cosmetic products are not re-usable due to hygiene reasons." Minimalist: "We offer refunds / replacements only in following cases" - wrong shipment, damaged product, expired product. Dot & Key: returns "only... for products that have been damaged in transit or products that have physical defects or in case of incorrect product been shipped". mCaffeine: "the order will not be returned once delivered".

Mamaearth's list is the same shape - wrong, expired, damaged or incomplete - with refusals for opened, used or altered products and for anything missing its original packaging. This is normal and defensible for sealed cosmetics, and it is uniform enough across the category that it should change how you buy: on a first order of any new active, the smallest size is the only trial available.

Libas, the one clothing brand here, is the exception. Its page offers a return "for any reason", with tags intact, original packaging, and the garment unwashed and undamaged - though the same sentence states a 15-day refund policy and a 7-day window, so the shorter figure is the safe one to work to. In exchange for that flexibility it is stricter elsewhere: "Exchange - We do not have any exchange policy", and missing-item claims need video proof of unboxing within 24 working hours.

Dot & KeyNoTransit damage, physical defect, wrong product

How fast the money comes back, and what it costs to send things back

Minimalist publishes the fastest final step: a refund "initiated within 24 hours" once the returned goods are verified. Beardo initiates "within 48 working hours" of authorisation and then estimates 4-8 days to credit. Dot & Key takes 7 working days on a prepaid order and 14 working days on a cash-on-delivery one. Mamaearth refunds a cancelled order within 7 business days but says a return "takes 2 weeks after the return has been picked up".

Read those as published promises rather than measured performance - we have not tested any of them, and a fast figure at the end of a chain still sits behind a review, a pickup and a transit. The one reliable lesson is that paying online rather than cash on delivery shortens the stated wait wherever a brand distinguishes between them.

Sending goods back is mostly free, with two exceptions worth knowing. Minimalist and Libas describe a courier pickup from your door; Mamaearth does too, but if reverse pickup is unavailable you self-ship and are reimbursed "either in your PayTM Wallet or Mamapay Wallet" - wallet credit, not cash. Libas caps self-shipped reimbursement at Rs. 100 and makes three pickup attempts before marking a request failed. Dot & Key adds a different risk: if it inspects a returned product and finds it ineligible, "the product will be couriered back to you".

The shortest clock on any of these pages is three hours

Cancellation is where the six differ most, and where the tightest number sits. mCaffeine: "you can do so by sending us an email at woot@mcaffeine.com within 3 hours of placing the order", and "Once orders have been dispatched, they cannot be canceled." Three hours, by email, with no cancel button described on the page.

Mamaearth draws the line at a status rather than a clock: "Orders can be only cancelled till the status is 'Ready to Ship'", through the CANCEL button under My Account - and it reserves the right to cancel any order itself without pre-confirming the customer, a clause that is standard across Indian e-commerce. Beardo, Dot & Key, Minimalist and Libas publish no cancellation window on the pages we read, which is reported here as an absence rather than as a refusal.

Put the whole comparison together and the behaviour that protects you is the same on all six: decide quickly, open the parcel on the day it arrives, photograph or film it before anything else, keep the outer carton and the tags until you are sure, and pay online rather than in cash if you think a refund is at all likely.

What this page is, and what it is not

This is a plain-English comparison of six policy pages as they stood on 1 October 2026: beardo.in/policies/refund-policy and /shipping-policy, dotandkey.com/policies/refund-policy and /shipping-policy, beminimalist.co/policies/refund-policy, mamaearth.in/policies/refund-policy, mcaffeine.com/policies/refund-policy and libas.in/policies/refund-policy. Every quotation is the brand's own wording, reproduced as printed. Where a table cell says 'not stated', that means the figure did not appear on the policy page we read - not that the brand refuses the thing. We did not place, cancel or return an order with any of these brands, and no timeline here has been tested.

Before you buy: the only window you control is the first one. Order when you can watch the parcel land, film the unboxing of anything expensive or fragile, and treat 48 hours as the working deadline regardless of which of these six you bought from - it keeps you inside every policy on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Indian beauty brand has the longest return window?
Among the six read on 1 October 2026, Beardo, Minimalist and Mamaearth all publish 7 days from delivery for their main fault cases, and Libas publishes 7 days in the operative clause of a sentence whose headline says 15. mCaffeine gives 5 days, and Dot & Key gives 48 hours. Mamaearth's 7 days applies only to a wrong or expired product; a damaged or missing item must be reported within 2 days.
Can I return opened skincare in India?
Generally not to the brand itself, on the policies we read. Beardo, Dot & Key, Minimalist, Mamaearth and mCaffeine all limit returns to fault cases - wrong, damaged, expired, missing or defective goods - and Mamaearth explicitly refuses "Opened/ used/ altered products". Sealed-cosmetics hygiene rules are the stated reason and the practice is common across the category. A brand may still choose to help with an individual case; its support team is the place to ask.
Which brand refunds fastest?
On published timings rather than measured performance: Minimalist states a refund "initiated within 24 hours" once a return is verified, Beardo initiates within 48 working hours and estimates 4-8 days to credit, Mamaearth refunds a cancelled order within 7 business days, and Dot & Key takes 7 working days on prepaid orders and 14 on cash-on-delivery ones. Mamaearth's return route is the slowest published figure, at about two weeks after pickup. None of these has been tested by us.
What is the free delivery threshold at these brands?
Beardo and mCaffeine both publish free shipping above Rs. 399. Dot & Key sets its threshold at a billing value of Rs. 999, with a Rs. 50 charge below that. Minimalist, Mamaearth and Libas did not state a threshold on the policy pages read for this article. Thresholds change at short notice, so the figure shown in your cart at checkout is the one that applies to your order.
Do I need to film myself opening the parcel?
For one of these six, effectively yes. Libas states that for claims about missing items or a wrong product you should "share a video evidence of unboxing and raise the issue within the 24 working hours from the date of delivery", and that claims without video proof may not be entertained. The others ask for photographs rather than video - Beardo wants pictures of the invoice and product, Dot & Key an email with photos. Since you cannot collect any of that after the box is open, filming the unboxing is the habit that covers every policy here.

Everything described here was read on 1 October 2026 from the brands' own published policy pages at beardo.in, dotandkey.com, beminimalist.co, mamaearth.in, mcaffeine.com and libas.in, and every quotation is each brand's own wording reproduced as printed, including its own spelling and punctuation. This is a plain-English comparison for readers and is not legal advice, not a complete statement of any brand's terms, and not a substitute for reading the live policy pages and the terms shown at your own checkout, which prevail over anything written here. We did not place an order, cancel one, raise a claim, return a product or test any timeline with any of these brands; every period quoted is a published promise rather than measured performance, and a shorter published timeline is not evidence that a brand is faster in practice. Where a figure is described as 'not stated', that means it did not appear on the policy page read for this article and is not a statement that the brand refuses or lacks that thing. Policies, windows, thresholds and contact details change without notice, sometimes between the date of this reading and the date you read it, and any brand may handle an individual case more or less generously than its published terms require. Where one page states two different windows in one sentence, both are reported as published and we make no claim about which applies. Nothing on this page is an allegation of wrongdoing, unfair trade practice, misleading advertising or of any breach of the Consumer Protection Act, the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, the Legal Metrology Act or any other law, rule or platform policy by Beardo, Zed Lifestyle, Dot & Key, Nykaa, FSN E-Commerce Ventures, Mamaearth, Honasa Consumer Limited, mCaffeine, PEP Technologies, Minimalist, Uprising Science, Libas, Libas Designs Limited or any other company named or unnamed; fault-only returns on sealed cosmetics, short damage-reporting windows and unboxing-video requirements are common industry practice and are described here, not criticised, and no comparison on this page is a statement about the quality of anyone's goods, packaging or customer service. Nothing here is a statement about any product's ingredients, safety, suitability for any skin or hair type, or fitness for any purpose, and nothing here affects any statutory right you may have under Indian consumer law. If you have a problem with an order, contact that brand's own customer support first; this page cannot resolve it and has no involvement in any order you place.
