Flipkart publishes one return policy, and almost everyone reads only the number of days in it. The days are the least useful part. What decides whether you get your money back, a new unit, or a trip to a service centre is the category you bought in and the brand that made it — and for the ten phone brands most people actually buy, the answer is the service centre.
Below: every category window in Flipkart's own table, which ones allow a refund at all, the five doorstep checks that get returns refused, and when cancelling starts costing you.

Windows run 2 to 10 days · most electronics are replacement only
The product page policy overrides this general one
📅 Update log:
7 Sep 2026 — first published, from the Order Cancellation and Return Policy at flipkart.com/pages/returnpolicy as served to a logged-out visitor on 7 September 2026. Flipkart can amend this policy at any time and individual product pages carry their own terms, so we re-read the page and log any change to the category windows, the brand lists, the pick-up conditions or the cancellation rules here.
The brand on your phone decides whether you get a replacement or a service centre
Flipkart's return policy looks like a table of days — 7 here, 10 there. The days are the least interesting part of it. The part that decides what actually happens when your phone arrives faulty is which brand made it.
Buy a phone from Apple, Google, Motorola, Infinix, Redmi, MI, Vivo, POCO, Realme or Samsung and the policy puts you in a row labelled “7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only”. Flipkart does not swap the handset; you are directed to the brand's authorised service centre, and the policy says plainly that Flipkart is a marketplace and the final decision on replacing a defective device rests with the seller or brand.
Buy a phone from any brand not on that list and you sit in a different row: 7 days, replacement only, handled through the marketplace. Same category, same seven days, materially different remedy — and the narrower one belongs to the ten brands most people actually buy.
The same split runs through the rest of the aisle. A named list of electronics brands — Acer, Apple/Beats, Bose, Canon, DELL, Epson, GoPro, HP, JBL, Lenovo, LG, Mi, Nothing, OnePlus, OPPO, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sony, Xiaomi and more, covering tablets, laptops, smartwatches, headphones and speakers — goes to the service centre, as does a long list of large-appliance brands from Vu, LG, Godrej, Haier and IFB through to Whirlpool, Blue Star, Daikin and KENT.
📱 What to do with this. If a big-brand phone, laptop or television arrives dead on arrival, the fastest route is the brand's authorised service centre, not a return request. For Samsung specifically, the policy says a brand-approved DOA certificate should be shared with Flipkart customer support to process the complaint.
Every category window, and what you can actually get back
Below is Flipkart's own Part 1 table, regrouped by window length. Read the third column before the second: most of this catalogue cannot be refunded at all.
A money-back route exists for lifestyle goods, furniture and rest-of-home, home decor and improvement, medicine, grocery, and the No Questions Asked scheme where a product page offers it. Everything else — mobiles, electronics, small and large appliances, books, sports gear, toys, stationery, musical instruments, refurbished stock — is replacement only. Returning a laptop because you changed your mind is not a route this table provides.
One overriding rule the policy states twice: for every product, the returns policy printed on the product page prevails over this general one. Check the individual listing before you buy, because these are seller schemes and they differ item by item.
| Category, as Flipkart groups it | Window | What you can get |
|---|
| Lifestyle — watches, t-shirts, footwear, saris, dresses, bags, luggage, sunglasses, belts, winterwear | 10 days | Refund, replacement or exchange |
| Furniture; Home — pet supplies and rest of home | 10 days | Refund or replacement |
| No Questions Asked scheme, where the product page offers it | 10 days | Refund or replacement (one-time replacement) |
| Furniture and large appliances outside the listed brands; chimney, water purifier, fan, geyser | 10 days | Replacement only |
| Home — home decor, furnishing, home improvement tools, household items | 7 days | Refund or replacement |
| Grocery — pulses, atta, edible items and similar | 7 days | Refund only |
| Books, sports equipment, exercise and fitness gear, auto accessories | 7 days | Replacement only |
| Toys, stationery, musical instruments | 7 days | Replacement only |
| Mobiles NOT from the ten listed brands; most electronics; all small home appliances except chimney, water purifier, fan and geyser | 7 days | Replacement only |
| Mobiles from Apple, Google, Motorola, Infinix, Redmi, MI, Vivo, POCO, Realme, Samsung; the named electronics brands; the named large-appliance brands | 7 days | Service centre replacement or repair only |
| Refurbished stock | 7 days | Replacement only |
| Grocery — dairy, bakery, fruit and vegetables | 2 days | Refund only |
| Medicine (allopathy and homeopathy) | 2 days | Refund |
| All wind instruments — harmonicas, flutes and similar | Non-returnable | Free replacement only if delivered damaged, defective or wrong |
🍺 Minutes orders run on a separate table. Flipkart's Hyperlocal policy sets its own windows: 1 day for fresh fruit, vegetables, milk and non-prescription medicines; 2 days for egg, fish, seafood and meat; 3 days for bread, cheese, butter, grocery staples, personal care and household cleaning; 3 days for prescription medicines; 7 days for books, sports equipment, toys, stationery and home utensils; 10 days for lifestyle. A listed set of hygiene items — diapers, bottle nipples, teethers, intimate care, sanitary pads, condoms, toothbrushes, tampons, dental floss, toilet brushes, cleaning gloves, boxers, trunks, socks and panties — is not returnable at all, though damaged or wrong deliveries may be accepted case by case within 5 days.
The pick-up check that quietly voids returns
Raising a return request is not the same as completing one. A field executive inspects the product at your door against five conditions, and the policy is explicit: the executive will refuse to accept the return if any of them is not met.
The one that catches most people is the first. The MRP tag must be undetached and clearly visible — so cutting the tag off a t-shirt before you have decided to keep it forfeits the return. The second is nearly as common: every in-box accessory, freebie and combo item must be there, which means the charger and the manual you put aside on day one need finding again.
For devices there is an extra step that is easy to forget in the moment: a phone, laptop or tablet must be formatted with the screen lock disabled, and iCloud lock disabled on Apple devices. Do that before the executive arrives, not while they wait. Where a refund is due, it is processed only once the seller has received the returned product.
| Pick-up check | What Flipkart's policy requires |
|---|
| Correct product | IMEI, name, image, brand, serial number, article number and bar code must match — and the MRP tag must be undetached and clearly visible |
| Complete product | Every in-the-box accessory — remote, starter kit, manual, charger, headphones — plus any freebies and combos must be present |
| Unused product | Unused, unwashed, unsoiled, no stains, quality-check seals, return tags and warranty seals untampered. Phones, laptops and tablets must be formatted with screen lock disabled, and iCloud lock disabled on Apple devices |
| Undamaged product | No scratches, dents, tears or holes — including the SIM tray, charging port, headphone port and back panel |
| Undamaged packaging | The original packaging or box must itself be undamaged |
Cancelling: free before dispatch, chargeable after
Cancellation is simpler than returning, with one catch. You can cancel any time before the order is dispatched. Once it is out for delivery you cannot cancel it in the app — but you may still reject it at the doorstep.
The catch is that free cancellation is time-boxed by category. The policy says the window varies, that after it passes a cancellation fee may be charged, and that the window shown on the product page or order confirmation page is final. Flipkart also reserves the right to modify or waive both the window and the fee.
If Flipkart or the seller cancels — unavailability, force majeure, suspected fraud or logistics — you are not charged, and payments already made are refunded within 5 to 7 business days. Minutes orders are the exception: they are non-cancellable and non-refundable through self-serve, and only a support agent can act, in listed circumstances such as the order missing its estimated delivery time or never being picked up.
| Cancellation question | What Flipkart's policy says |
|---|
| Can you cancel after ordering? | Yes, any time before the order is dispatched |
| After it is dispatched? | It cannot be cancelled once out for delivery — but you may reject it at the doorstep |
| Is cancelling always free? | No. The window varies by category, and after it passes a cancellation fee may be charged |
| Which window applies? | The one shown on the product page or order confirmation page — the policy calls that final |
| If Flipkart cancels? | Prepaid orders are refunded in full; refunds run 5–7 business days and are tracked on the Order Details page |
| Minutes (quick delivery) orders? | Non-cancellable and non-refundable via self-serve, except through a support agent in listed circumstances |
📦 Open-box deliveries are final. If you are given an open-box delivery and the product is wrong or damaged, you get a refund at that point — on the spot for cash-on-delivery orders. But once you have accepted an open-box delivery, the policy says no return request will be processed afterwards, except for manufacturing defects. And where Flipkart's partners handle installation, do not open the packaging yourself — authorised personnel must unbox it.
What to do with this before you buy
Read the product page, not this table. Flipkart states twice that the policy shown on the individual listing overrides the general one. These are seller schemes; two similar products can carry different windows.
For big-brand electronics, expect a service centre. If you are buying a phone, laptop, television or large appliance from one of the named brands, the realistic remedy for a fault is the brand's authorised service centre within 7 days, not a marketplace replacement — and not a refund.
Leave the tags on and keep the box. Until you are certain, keep the MRP tag attached, the packaging intact and every accessory together. The doorstep inspection is pass-or-fail, and it is where returns most often end.
How this page was read, and what it does not tell you
Everything on this page comes from Flipkart's own Order Cancellation and Return Policy at flipkart.com/pages/returnpolicy, read on 7 September 2026 as a logged-out visitor in India. The cancellation rules and the 5–7 business day refund period, the three-part returns policy, the Part 1 category and window table, the brand lists that separate marketplace replacement from service-centre replacement, the five pick-up conditions, the Part 3 general rules including open-box delivery and furniture part-replacement, and the separate Hyperlocal (Minutes) table with its non-returnable hygiene list are all Flipkart's own stated rules, quoted or paraphrased without adjustment. We regrouped the Part 1 table by window length for readability; no window, brand or condition was changed.
What that means for what you can conclude. We read the published policy only: we did not place an order, cancel one, request a return, present a product for pick-up, visit a service centre or contact customer support, so nothing here reports how any of these rules is applied in practice, how individual field executives assess a product at the door, or what any particular customer's experience has been. Published terms and day-to-day practice are not always the same thing, and a seller may be more accommodating in a given case than the policy requires. Flipkart is a marketplace and these are described as schemes provided by the respective sellers, so they vary by seller and by listing: the policy itself says the returns policy on the product page prevails over the general one, and it reserves the right to restrict the number of returns per order unit. Terms change without notice, so verify the current policy on flipkart.com before ordering. Nothing here is legal advice, and nothing here limits or describes your rights under Indian consumer law, which exist independently of any retailer's published terms. This page does not cover Flipkart Plus, SuperCoins, exchange offers, warranty claims, EMI or bank offers, each of which carries separate terms. No wrongdoing by Flipkart is alleged or implied.
The short version
The brand decides the remedy. Phones from Apple, Google, Motorola, Infinix, Redmi, MI, Vivo, POCO, Realme and Samsung — plus a long list of electronics and large-appliance brands — get 7 days, service centre replacement or repair only. Brands off that list get a straight 7-day marketplace replacement.
Refund is the exception. Lifestyle (10 days), furniture and rest-of-home (10), home decor and improvement (7), grocery (2 or 7) and medicine (2) have a money-back route. Mobiles, electronics, appliances, books, toys and refurbished stock are replacement only.
The doorstep check is pass-or-fail. The MRP tag must still be attached and visible, every accessory and freebie present, devices formatted with locks disabled, and both product and packaging undamaged — or the executive refuses the return.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Flipkart's return policy in 2026?
Flipkart's published policy sets the window by category. Lifestyle goods — clothing, footwear, watches, bags, luggage and winterwear — get 10 days with refund, replacement or exchange. Furniture and rest-of-home get 10 days for refund or replacement; home decor, furnishing and household items get 7 days. Books, sports equipment, toys, stationery and musical instruments get 7 days replacement only. Mobiles, electronics and small appliances get 7 days; large appliances outside the named brand lists get 10 days. Medicine and fresh grocery run 2 days; other grocery 7 days. Wind instruments and a list of hygiene items are non-returnable. Flipkart states that the returns policy shown on the individual product page prevails over this general one, so check the listing before buying. This reflects the policy as published on 7 September 2026.
Can I get a refund on a mobile phone or laptop bought on Flipkart?
Not through the general returns table. Mobiles, electronics, small home appliances, large appliances and refurbished stock are all listed as replacement only — there is no money-back route in Part 1 for those categories. Which kind of replacement you get depends on the brand: phones from Apple, Google, Motorola, Infinix, Redmi, MI, Vivo, POCO, Realme and Samsung, along with a named list of electronics and large-appliance brands, fall under “7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only” and are routed to the brand's authorised service centre. Phones from brands outside that list get a 7-day marketplace replacement. Flipkart notes it is a marketplace and the final decision on replacing a defective device rests with the seller or brand. An individual product page may offer better terms, and it overrides the general policy.
Why was my Flipkart return rejected at pick-up?
Because the pick-up inspection is pass-or-fail against five published conditions, and the policy says the field executive will refuse the return if any one is not met. The product must be correct (IMEI, serial, brand and bar code matching, and the MRP tag undetached and clearly visible); complete (every in-box accessory, freebie and combo present); unused (unwashed, unsoiled, seals and return tags untampered, and for phones, laptops or tablets, formatted with screen lock disabled and iCloud lock disabled on Apple devices); undamaged, including the SIM tray, ports and back panel; and in undamaged original packaging. Removing a clothing tag or misplacing a charger is enough to fail the check. Where a refund is due, it is processed only after the seller receives the product.
Can I cancel a Flipkart order, and is there a cancellation fee?
You can cancel any time before the order is dispatched. After it goes out for delivery you cannot cancel in the app, though you may reject it at the doorstep. Cancellation is not always free: the policy says the window varies by category and that a cancellation fee may be charged once the specified time has passed, with the window shown on the product page or order confirmation page treated as final. Flipkart reserves the right to waive or modify both. If Flipkart or the seller cancels — for unavailability, force majeure, suspected fraud or logistical constraints — you are not charged and prepaid amounts are refunded within 5 to 7 business days, trackable on the Order Details page. Minutes orders cannot be cancelled through self-serve.
Which products cannot be returned on Flipkart at all?
The policy lists two sets. In the main table, all wind instruments — harmonicas, flutes and similar — are non-returnable on hygiene and personal wellness grounds, with a free replacement provided only if the item arrives damaged, defective or different from what was ordered. In the separate Hyperlocal (Minutes) table, a list of hygiene and intimate items is non-returnable: diapers, bottle nipples, female urination devices, women's intimate care, teethers and soothers, nipple pullers, sanitary pads and pantyliners, condoms, toothbrushes, tampons, dental floss sticks, toilet brushes, cleaning gloves, boxers, trunks, socks and panties — though returns for damaged or wrongly delivered items may be accepted case by case within 5 days. Flipkart also maintains a wider non-returnable product list, and the product page is authoritative for any given item.

Flipkart is an online marketplace and these returns are described as schemes offered by the respective sellers, so terms vary by seller and by listing; Flipkart states that the returns policy on the product page prevails over the general policy, reserves the right to restrict the number of returns created per order unit, and notes that the final decision on replacing a defective device rests with the seller or brand.
