Twenty-two hair products read on 26 August, Rs. 152 to Rs. 4,410. Every score is 4.1 to 4.9. The only number that separates them is how many people voted.
We read Nykaa's hair care shelf on 26 August 2026 and seated 22 products from Rs. 152 to Rs. 4,410. The discounts here are modest and orderly - a median of 20 per cent, nothing above 42 - which is a different world from the 80 per cent badges on marketplace shelves. The ratings, though, are flat: every one of the 63 products we pulled scores between 4.1 and 4.9. What separates them is the number of voters, and that runs from 290 to 539,781.
Every price below was pulled from Nykaa on August 26, 2026 and checked against the MRP on the listing. Stack them with the live codes on our Nykaa coupons page, which the deals desk re-verifies daily.

First: ignore the score and read the count, because everything here scores 4.4 and the counts differ by four orders of magnitude. Second: match the format to the job - an anti-hairfall shampoo is rinsed off in ninety seconds, while an oil or a leave-on serum stays on for hours, so the same active does more work in the second format. Third: treat a badge above 30 per cent as genuinely unusual here, since the shelf median is 20 per cent and professional brands sit at 10. Fourth: buy the conditioner from the expensive line and the shampoo from the cheap one if the budget is tight - the ends need the conditioner more than the scalp needs the shampoo, the same logic we applied to the wider Nykaa beauty shelf. All sixty-three products in this pull score between 4.1 and 4.9, with a median of 4.4 - a range so narrow that comparing two products on their score is meaningless. The counts, by contrast, range from 290 to 539,781. That is four orders of magnitude on one shelf, and it is the only rating information with any discriminating power. Every card here prints both, and where a product's score sits at the bottom of the range - Pilgrim's 4.2 from 8,247 ratings - or at the top - Brillare's 4.9 from 12,647 - we say so explicitly, because on this shelf those are the only two meaningful positions.
Nykaa's discounts are small and orderly: the median badge across sixty-three products is 20 per cent, the largest anywhere in the pull is 42 per cent, and four listings are discounted 5 per cent or less. That is a completely different regime from the marketplace shelves where 79 to 87 per cent badges sit on invented list prices, and it means a percentage here carries some information. So we say where each badge sits relative to the shelf median rather than treating 25 per cent as impressive in isolation - and we note that professional-channel brands like Biolage and Redken consistently discount least, at 10 per cent.
A shampoo is on the scalp for under two minutes and is designed to be rinsed away, which makes it a poor delivery vehicle for a peptide or a rosemary extract - the exception being medicated anti-dandruff formulas, where piroctone olamine and salicylic acid have real published backing. An oil sits on the scalp for hours. A leave-on serum stays until the next wash. Where a product's claim depends on contact time the card says so, and where the underlying chemistry is well evidenced - coconut oil's protein-loss reduction, bond-repair acids on chemically treated hair - we say that too.
Nykaa's listing feed does not publish pack sizes consistently, and hair care is a category where the same product is sold in three or four sizes at once - this pull returned Livon at Rs. 152 and Rs. 273 under near-identical names. Computing a price-per-millilitre from a size scraped out of a product title would produce confident numbers built on guesswork, so this page carries none. Where two listings are clearly the small and large pack of one product, the cards say so and leave the arithmetic to the reader at the shelf.
Because the score compresses at the top and the count does not. All 63 hair care products in our 26 August 2026 pull scored between 4.1 and 4.9, with a median of 4.4 - a Rs. 152 Livon serum, a Rs. 822 TRESemme shampoo and a Rs. 4,410 Redken pair all sit at 4.4. Ratings on beauty platforms cluster this way because people who dislike a product tend not to rate it, because most of these formulations do the modest thing they claim, and because a score out of five has too little resolution to separate them. The rating count is the number that discriminates: on this shelf it ranges from 290 to 539,781. A product rated by half a million people at 4.4 is a different kind of evidence from one rated by 3,000 at 4.4, even though the star display looks identical.
On evidence rather than marketing, Parachute Advansed Gold coconut oil at Rs. 240 is the strongest buy: coconut oil is the one ingredient in this category with independent published research showing it penetrates the hair shaft and reduces protein loss during washing, and this listing also carries the joint-largest discount in our read at 40 per cent with 4,054 ratings at 4.4. If you want the rosemary trend with the most transparent labelling, Brillare's 10% Rosemary oil at Rs. 283 states its concentration - most blends do not - and carries the highest score under Rs. 500 at 4.6 from 5,215 ratings. Soulflower's rosemary-lavender oil at Rs. 351 has the biggest crowd of any oil here at 146,736 ratings, but it is a blend rather than a concentration you can read off the label.
They do different jobs and the prices reflect fashion more than function. A serum is a leave-on silicone film - typically cyclomethicone and dimethicone - that sits on the hair shaft and reduces friction, frizz and combing damage. It does nothing for the scalp and does not treat hair fall. An oil penetrates the shaft, reduces protein loss during washing, and is a scalp product. The chemistry inside a Rs. 248 Streax serum and a Rs. 583 L'Oreal one is broadly the same family; what the extra money buys on this shelf is fragrance, viscosity, a familiar brand and occasionally a UV filter, which is a genuine addition in Indian sun. If you have frizzy or chemically treated hair, buy a cheap serum and use it sparingly on damp ends. If you have hair fall or scalp issues, the serum is the wrong product.
Yes, and more predictably. The median discount across all 63 hair care products in this pull was 20 per cent and the largest anywhere was 42 per cent, with four listings cut by 5 per cent or less. That is a narrow, orderly range compared with marketplace shelves where 79 to 87 per cent badges routinely sit on invented list prices set by the seller. The reason is structural: Nykaa buys from brands and sells at close to brand-set pricing, so the MRP on a Nykaa listing is usually the brand's actual recommended price rather than a number invented to be crossed out. The practical consequence is that a large badge on Nykaa is worth noticing - 37 or 40 per cent here really is the top of the range - while professional-channel brands such as Biolage and Redken sit stubbornly at 10 per cent.
Rarely, and the format is the reason. A shampoo is on the scalp for roughly sixty to ninety seconds and is designed to be rinsed away, which gives any active - peptides, rosemary, onion extract, biotin - very little contact time to do anything. That is why the two anti-hairfall shampoos seated on this page, at Rs. 321 and Rs. 399, carry two of the three lowest scores in the read. The exception is medicated anti-dandruff shampoos: piroctone olamine and salicylic acid, as in the Bare Anatomy listing at Rs. 469, have real published backing against flaking and seborrhoeic dermatitis, and they work if you leave the lather on the scalp for two to three minutes rather than rinsing immediately. For hair fall specifically, a leave-on scalp serum or a weekly oil will out-perform any shampoo, and persistent hair fall is a doctor's question rather than a shelf's.
