Two Udemy course covers from the development catalogue read for this page, one a web-development illustration and one a full-stack JavaScript and React course, on a colour-block background, for a page about Udemy development course prices

Udemy's development catalogue shows list prices from Rs. 799 to Rs. 4,229 and badges from 35 to 86 per cent off. We read 22 cards on 29 August 2026 to see what that spread costs in practice.

It costs the same. Every one of the 20 distinct courses lands between Rs. 449 and Rs. 609 — and the course with the smallest badge on the page is one of the cheapest on it.

📅 Update log:
29 Aug 2026 — first published. Every course price, struck-through list price and discount badge on this page was read from the course cards on udemy.com/courses/development on 29 August 2026, rendered from an Indian IP with no account logged in and no coupon applied. The read returned 22 cards; two courses appeared twice at identical prices, so all counts on this page use the 20 distinct courses. Tier groupings, bands and per-group figures are our arithmetic over those cards and are described as such. Udemy runs near-continuous promotions and prices in India move inside a narrow band between them, so this is one day's read rather than a permanent price list; we re-read the catalogue and log any change to the band or to the list-price tiers.

Twenty courses, one price band

We read the Udemy development catalogue on 29 August 2026 from an Indian IP with no account logged in: 22 course cards, of which two courses appeared twice, giving 20 distinct courses. Every figure below — the price, the struck-through list price and the badge — is printed on the card.

The list prices span more than five times, from Rs. 799 to Rs. 4,229. The prices you actually pay span a fifth of that: Rs. 449 to Rs. 609. Every course on the page, from a Rs. 799 prompt-engineering short course to a Rs. 4,229 hundred-hour web bootcamp, lands inside that one narrow band.

Which means the badge on the card is telling you about the list price, not about the course. A 86 per cent badge and a 35 per cent badge on this page describe two courses that cost within eighty rupees of each other.

List price tierCourses on itWhat you pay
Rs. 4,2291Rs. 609
Rs. 4,0191Rs. 579
Rs. 3,5497Rs. 509
Rs. 3,2891Rs. 459
Rs. 3,1995Rs. 459
Rs. 1,9191Rs. 449
Rs. 8191Rs. 529
Rs. 7993Rs. 449 - Rs. 499
💡 Compare the price, not the badge. On this catalogue the discount percentage is arithmetic on a list price almost nobody pays. Two courses badged 86% and 38% can cost Rs. 459 and Rs. 499.

Fifteen of twenty show exactly 86 per cent

The tell is the repetition. Fifteen of the twenty distinct courses we read carry a badge of exactly 86 per cent, and they cluster on two list prices: Rs. 3,549 (seven courses, all at Rs. 509) and Rs. 3,199 (five courses, all at Rs. 459). Seven independently-authored courses do not arrive at the same list price and the same sale price by coincidence.

What that pattern reflects is a pricing tier rather than fifteen separate discount decisions: a course is placed on a list-price band, the storefront runs a promotion against that band, and the badge falls out of the arithmetic. This is the group that contains most of the famous names — the Python bootcamps, the web developer bootcamps, React, Angular, Java, the machine-learning A-Z.

None of that makes them bad value. Rs. 459 for a sixty-hour bootcamp is genuinely cheap. It does mean the Rs. 3,199 you are being shown as the alternative is not a price the course is realistically sold at, and treating the 86 per cent as money saved would be a mistake.

The smaller badges are the more honest ones

The five remaining courses are the newer material — AI agents, prompt engineering, the OpenAI API, a Pygame course — and they behave differently. Their list prices are Rs. 799 to Rs. 1,919, so their badges read 35 to 44 per cent rather than 86.

But look at what you pay: Rs. 449 to Rs. 529. That is the same band as the 86 per cent group, and the cheapest course on the entire page — the AI Coder course at Rs. 449 — sits in this group with a 44 per cent badge, alongside the Rs. 449 Pygame course. The courses advertising the smallest discounts are not more expensive. They simply have list prices that were set recently and set lower.

The one genuine outlier is the Rs. 819 OpenAI API course at Rs. 529: it carries both the smallest badge on the page, 35 per cent, and the second-highest price. If you are sorting by discount you will never see it; if you are sorting by price you will place it correctly.

Two courses appeared twice in the same read. The 100 Days of Code bootcamp and the Prompt Engineering bootcamp were each shown on two cards in the same listing, at identical prices both times. We have counted them once in every figure on this page, which is why 22 cards become 20 courses.

What this means for how you buy

Three practical consequences follow from a catalogue priced this way.

First, waiting for a bigger discount on this page is close to pointless. The band is the band: Udemy's course prices in India move between roughly Rs. 399 and Rs. 609 depending on the promotion running, and the difference between a good day and an ordinary one is tens of rupees, not thousands. If a course you want is Rs. 459 today, the downside of buying it today is small.

Second, the badge is not a ranking signal. Sorting or filtering by discount will push the legacy Rs. 3,199 tier to the top and bury the newer AI material, which is priced the same and in some cases cheaper.

Third, if you expect to buy more than about three courses in a year, the arithmetic changes shape entirely and the subscription becomes the thing to price against — we have compared that separately. For one or two courses, buying them outright inside this Rs. 449-609 band is the cheaper route.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do Udemy development courses cost in India?
In our read of the development catalogue on 29 August 2026, every one of the 20 distinct courses on the page cost between Rs. 449 and Rs. 609. That was true across the whole spread of list prices, which ran from Rs. 799 to Rs. 4,229. The cheapest courses were the AI Coder course and a Pygame games course at Rs. 449; the most expensive was a responsive HTML and CSS course at Rs. 609. Most of the well-known bootcamps — the Python and web developer courses, React, Angular, Java — sat at Rs. 459 or Rs. 509. Udemy runs near-continuous promotions and this band shifts by a few tens of rupees between them, so check the live price before buying.
Why do so many Udemy courses show exactly 86% off?
Because they share a list price, not because fifteen instructors independently chose the same discount. Of the 20 distinct courses we read, 15 carried a badge of exactly 86 per cent, and they cluster on two list-price tiers: Rs. 3,549, where seven courses all sold at Rs. 509, and Rs. 3,199, where five courses all sold at Rs. 459. When a promotion is applied against a fixed list-price band, every course on that band produces the same percentage. The practical reading is that the 86 per cent describes the gap to a list price the course is rarely sold at, so it is not a measure of money saved and not a useful way to compare two courses against each other.
Are the cheaper-looking AI courses actually cheaper?
Sometimes, yes — despite advertising much smaller discounts. The newer AI and prompt engineering courses on the page carried list prices of Rs. 799 to Rs. 1,919 and so showed badges of 35 to 44 per cent instead of 86. But what they cost was Rs. 449 to Rs. 529, the same band as everything else, and the joint-cheapest course in the entire read was the AI Coder course at Rs. 449, which shows a 44 per cent badge. The one to watch is the OpenAI API course at Rs. 529 against a Rs. 819 list price: the smallest badge on the page and one of the higher prices. Sort by price rather than by discount and these land in the right order.
Is it worth waiting for a Udemy sale?
Not for very long. Udemy's India course prices move inside a narrow band — roughly Rs. 399 to Rs. 609 across the promotions we have tracked — so the gap between a strong promotion and an ordinary week is tens of rupees on a course you will spend dozens of hours in. That is different from a retail sale where waiting can save thousands. The one time waiting genuinely pays is if a Rs. 399 flat-price promotion is running, which we have seen on this storefront before and which sits below the Rs. 449 floor of this read. Our Udemy sale calendar tracks when those run. Otherwise, if the price in front of you is inside the Rs. 449-609 band, that is a normal price and not one worth deferring a purchase over.
Should you buy courses individually or take the subscription?
It comes down to how many courses you will actually finish in a year. Buying outright inside the Rs. 449-609 band we found means two courses cost roughly Rs. 1,000 and three cost about Rs. 1,500, and you keep them permanently. Udemy's Personal Plan is a monthly subscription priced around Rs. 500 a month in India, which means it costs about Rs. 6,000 a year and access ends when you stop paying. On those numbers the subscription starts to make sense somewhere above ten courses a year, and only if the ones you want are inside the subscription catalogue, which does not include every course sold individually. For most people buying one or two specific bootcamps, individual purchase is clearly cheaper.
Prices & codes last verified: 29 August 2026
Every course price, struck-through list price and discount badge on this page was read from the course cards on udemy.com/courses/development on 29 August 2026, rendered from an Indian IP with no account logged in, no coupon applied and no purchase made. The read returned 22 cards, of which two courses appeared twice at identical prices; all counts, bands and percentages here use the 20 distinct courses, and the tier groupings and price bands are our own arithmetic over those cards rather than figures Udemy publishes. Twenty courses from one category listing is a sample and not the whole catalogue, and prices in other categories may sit outside the band described here. Udemy runs near-continuous promotions, prices differ by country, by account, by whether you arrive through an app or a browser and by whether a flat-price promotion is running at that moment, so the figures on this page are one day's read and will not match every shopper's screen. Nothing on this page is a review of any course: we have not enrolled in, watched or assessed any course named here, and the observations concern pricing structure only. Comments about the Personal Plan subscription refer to our separate earlier read of that product. Course titles, instructors and list prices are Udemy's and its instructors' own. Zoutons may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page; it does not change what you pay, and nothing here was reviewed or approved by Udemy.
