Flipkart's Buyer Protection Program has published ceilings almost nobody has read: 45 days from delivery to file, a maximum of five claims a year, and coverage capped at Rs. 50,000. A lifetime limit exists too, unquantified.

And one move forfeits the whole thing: raising a chargeback with your card issuer. The terms say the matter is then not covered — while the seller keeps an equivalent remedy of their own. Read from flipkart.com/pages/terms on 31 October 2026; no claim was filed or tested.

📅 Update log:
31 Oct 2026: first published. Every number, exclusion and quoted clause on this page was read from the "Buyer Eligibility and Restrictions" section of flipkart.com/pages/terms on 31 October 2026, logged out, from India — 162,774 characters of first-party text. Quotations are reproduced as published. No claim was filed, withdrawn, escalated or disputed to test any of it.

Flipkart's Buyer Protection Program has hard numeric ceilings, and they are not on the product page. You may file a dispute within 45 days of delivery; you may make a maximum of five claims per year; and "the coverage amount will be limited to Rs. 50,000/-". There is also a lifetime claim limit, which the terms mention but never quantify.

The clause most likely to cost someone real money is the chargeback one. If you go to your card issuer first, the terms say the matter "will not be covered under Buyer Protection Program" — while the seller keeps an equivalent remedy through the Seller Protection Program. Everything below is quoted from flipkart.com/pages/terms, read on 31 October 2026. No claim was filed or disputed.

The numbers the program runs on

Five claims a year is the number worth remembering. The terms state it flatly — "Buyers can make a maximum of 5 claims per year on Flipkart" — with one concession: a claim you withdraw does not count against the five. For a household ordering regularly, five is not a large allowance, and nothing on the checkout page tells you how many you have used.

The Rs. 50,000 ceiling matters at the top of the basket. Buyer Protection coverage is capped there, which is below the price of plenty of things Flipkart sells — large appliances, premium phones and laptops among them. Setting claim caps and coverage ceilings is ordinary platform practice and nothing here alleges wrongdoing by Flipkart. The point is that the figures are published and most buyers have never seen them.

Eight ways to fall outside the program

ExclusionFlipkart's published wording
You already raised a bank chargeback"will not be covered under Buyer Protection Program" — but "a Seller can file a claim through the Seller Protection Program"
Damage or loss after delivery"will completely be the Buyer's responsibility" — "Buyers should refuse to accept delivery if the item is damaged"
"Buyer remorse"Bought by mistake, or changed your mind — "will not be entertained through this program"
Fraudulent charges and claims"are not covered"
Blacklisted and blocked buyers"are not covered by the Buyer Protection Program"
Buyers past the lifetime claim limit"are also not eligible"
Technical or manufacturing defectsFlipkart "does not provide any guarantee/warranty ... against technical/manufacturing defects"
Direct or indirect losses and costsFlipkart "shall at no point be responsible"

Read the chargeback row twice. A bank chargeback feels like the stronger move — it goes to your card issuer rather than to the platform — but under these terms it forfeits the platform remedy entirely. The asymmetry is explicit in the same sentence: the buyer loses Buyer Protection, while "a Seller can file a claim through the Seller Protection Program". If you intend to use Flipkart's dispute process, use it before calling the bank.

The delivery-door rule is the other practical one. "Any damage or loss to the product after delivery will not be covered under this program and will completely be the Buyer's responsibility", followed by the remedy the terms actually offer: "Buyers should refuse to accept delivery if the item is damaged." Accepting a visibly damaged parcel and raising it afterwards is, on the published wording, the weaker position.

And "buyer remorse" is named. The terms define it as "instances where products are bought by the Buyer by mistake or where the Buyer chooses to change his/her mind", and say such claims "will not be entertained through this program". That sits alongside the separate exclusion in the main Buyer Protection section for ordering the wrong item.

What the terms reserve to Flipkart's own judgement

PointWhat the terms say
A dispute does not equal a refund"Raising disputes against Sellers does not automatically entitle the Buyer to a refund or replacement" — Flipkart "may process only such claims that are valid and genuine"
Decisions cannot be appealed"Decisions made by Flipkart under the Buyer Protection Program shall be final and binding on its Users"
The program can be withdrawn"Flipkart reserves its right to modify / discontinue Buyer Protection Program without any prior notice period"
False claims carry consequencesFlipkart "reserves its right to initiate civil and/or criminal proceedings" and may "suspend, block, restrict, cancel the Display Name" and disqualify related users

Filing is not winning. The terms are direct about it: "Raising disputes against Sellers does not automatically entitle the Buyer to a refund or replacement for the product purchased. Flipkart shall verify the disputes so raised and may process only such claims that are valid and genuine."

And the outcome is not appealable within the program: "Decisions made by Flipkart under the Buyer Protection Program shall be final and binding on its Users." The terms also reserve the right to modify or discontinue the whole program without prior notice, and to pursue civil or criminal proceedings against a user who files false or misleading claims — alongside suspending or blocking that user and "any related users".

Every number, exclusion and quoted clause on this page was read from flipkart.com/pages/terms once, on 31 October 2026, logged out, from India. No claim was filed, withdrawn, escalated or disputed to test any of it, and no claim is made about how Flipkart decides individual cases. Flipkart reserves the right to modify or discontinue this program without notice — read the live page before relying on anything here.
Use Flipkart's dispute process before you call your bank. On the published terms, initiating a chargeback through your card issuer takes the matter outside Buyer Protection entirely, while leaving the seller's equivalent remedy intact. And inspect at the door. Damage after delivery is excluded, and the terms' own stated remedy is to refuse the delivery. Note the delivery date too — the filing window is 45 days from it, not from when you opened the box.

Five numbers and rules worth remembering

One: 45 days from delivery to raise a dispute. Two: five claims a year, with withdrawn claims not counted, plus an unquantified lifetime ceiling. Three: Rs. 50,000 is the coverage cap, which is below the price of many large appliances and premium devices.

Four: a bank chargeback forfeits the protection — platform first, bank second. Five: contact the seller before raising a dispute, because the terms make that attempt a precondition. None of this is legal advice, Flipkart's decisions are final and binding under the program, and the live terms govern — they change without notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Buyer Protection claims can you make on Flipkart?
Five per year. Flipkart's terms state: "Buyers can make a maximum of 5 claims per year on Flipkart. If the claim was withdrawn, it is not counted." There is also a separate lifetime ceiling — "Buyers who have reached their maximum lifetime limit for claims are also not eligible" — which the terms do not quantify anywhere we could find. Setting claim caps is ordinary platform practice; we report the figures as published.
How long do you have to raise a Flipkart dispute?
45 days from the date of delivery. The terms read "Buyers can file a dispute within 45 days from the date of delivery of the product". Before raising it with Flipkart you are expected to contact the seller first: "Buyers should first contact the Seller and attempt to resolve the issue", and only if you do not hear back or cannot resolve it "can a dispute be raised with Flipkart" through flipkart.com/helpcentre. Note the window runs from delivery, not from when the problem is discovered.
Does a credit card chargeback affect Flipkart Buyer Protection?
Yes, and decisively. "If the Buyer has already initiated chargeback through the credit card issuing bank, it will not be covered under Buyer Protection Program, though in such cases a Seller can file a claim through the Seller Protection Program." Going to your bank first removes the platform remedy while leaving the seller's in place. If you want to use Flipkart's dispute process, the published terms say to use it before contacting your card issuer. This is the policy as published; we tested nothing and this is not legal advice.
How much does Flipkart Buyer Protection cover?
Up to Rs. 50,000. The terms state "The coverage amount will be limited to Rs. 50,000/-". That ceiling sits below the price of a good deal of what Flipkart sells — large appliances, premium phones and laptops among them. The terms also make clear the program is not a warranty: "Through the Buyer Protection program, Flipkart does not provide any guarantee/warranty to Buyers for products sold on Flipkart against technical/manufacturing defects."
Can you return something on Flipkart because you changed your mind?
Not through Buyer Protection. The terms name it directly: claims "of the nature of 'Buyer remorse' (i.e. instances where products are bought by the Buyer by mistake or where the Buyer chooses to change his/her mind with regard to the product purchased by him) will not be entertained through this program." The main Buyer Protection section carries a matching exclusion for ordering the wrong item. That is separate from the ordinary category return window shown on a product page, which is a different mechanism.

Every number, exclusion and quoted clause on this page was read from the "Buyer Eligibility and Restrictions" section of flipkart.com/pages/terms on 31 October 2026, logged out, from India. No claim was filed, withdrawn, escalated or disputed to test any of it, and no claim is made about how Flipkart decides individual cases, how often claims succeed, or what happens in any particular dispute. Quoted text is reproduced as published; the surrounding explanation is our own reading of it and is not legal advice, and is not advice about chargebacks, card disputes or your rights against your bank — those are matters for your card issuer and, if needed, a qualified adviser. This page is a plain-language summary of a long legal document and is not a substitute for it; where anything here differs from the live terms, the live terms govern. Flipkart states that it "reserves its right to modify / discontinue Buyer Protection Program without any prior notice period", so the limits in force when you read this may not be the limits quoted here. Where the terms leave a limit unquantified — the lifetime claim ceiling — we say so rather than filling the gap. The Buyer Protection Program is a separate mechanism from the ordinary category return window shown on a product page and from any manufacturer warranty, and nothing here describes your statutory rights under Indian consumer law, which are unaffected by a platform's terms. Nothing on this page alleges wrongdoing by Flipkart or by any seller; setting claim caps, coverage ceilings and programme exclusions are ordinary platform practices, reported here as published fact. Zoutons may earn a commission on purchases made through links on this page; this does not affect what is written above.
