Croma's 84 handsets were read from its own search service and Amazon's 79 from amazon.in search results, both on 4 September 2026 for eight queries each, as served to a logged-out visitor with nothing purchased. Three of the eight Amazon queries were price-anchored, so the headline median comparison uses only the five brand-name Amazon queries. Both sites re-rank continuously and change stock without notice, so we re-read both shelves and log what has changed here.
The three brands Croma returns nothing for are all on Amazon
We read both phone shelves on the morning of 4 September 2026, typing brand names into each. On Croma, three of those searches came back with zero handsets of the brand asked for: “motorola mobile” returned 15 results and no Motorola, “iqoo mobile” returned 19 and no iQOO, “poco mobile” returned four and no new Poco. Redmi returned exactly one handset.
On Amazon the same names return a shelf. Motorola: 11 listings from Rs. 15,476 to Rs. 34,788. iQOO: 12 listings from Rs. 16,999 to Rs. 93,999. Redmi: 15 listings from Rs. 12,449 to Rs. 46,999. Poco is thinner at two listings, Rs. 11,199 and Rs. 14,250, but it is there.
That is the practical difference between these two shelves and it is not about price at all. If the phone you are researching is a moto g, an iQOO Z-series or a Redmi A-series, one of these retailers has a range and the other, on the searches we ran, did not return the brand. In the other direction Croma is where the OnePlus and Apple depth is — 21 and 17 listings respectively on the shelf we read.

Three of our eight Amazon searches were price-anchored — “mobile phone under 15000”, “5g mobile phone under 20000” and “smartphone 5g” — which pulls the Amazon median down by construction. Comparing that against Croma would not be a fair fight, so the headline number below uses only the five brand-name Amazon queries, which is how Croma was read.
On that basis: Amazon's median handset is Rs. 29,594 across 43 listings, Croma's is Rs. 40,999 across 84. The median badge is 26% on Amazon against 12% on Croma.
Two caveats on that badge gap, and they matter. Croma's shelf is heavy with Apple and OnePlus, which discount at 3–9% by policy, so its low median partly reflects what it stocks. And Amazon's reference prices are set by individual sellers rather than by one retailer; this project has previously found per-unit pricing and plainly wrong reference figures on that shelf. We are therefore leading on the rupee prices, which are checkable, and treating the percentage comparison as indicative only.

₹ Why the medians are not a verdict. Neither sample is a catalogue: these are the first pages each site returned for eight searches on one morning, and both sites rank results by their own logic. Croma's shelf skews to Apple, OnePlus and Google; the Amazon queries we ran skew to the 5G budget and mid-range segment. The like-for-like statement this page can support is about brand availability and about how much customer evidence each shelf publishes — not that one retailer is cheaper than the other in general.

This is the gap that changes how you shop. Fifty-five of Croma's 84 handsets carry no customer rating at all, and the highest rating count anywhere on that shelf is 43 — on an iPhone 15 128GB, scoring 3.1 out of 5.
On Amazon, 77 of 79 listings carry a rating, with a median of 169 ratings each. The busiest are a Samsung Galaxy M17 5G at Rs. 22,999 with 2,468 ratings at 4.1, a Galaxy M36 5G at the same price with 2,122, and a realme NARZO 80 Lite at Rs. 13,999 with 2,024.
Neither number is a quality verdict and we did not read a single review. Ratings on a retailer's listing absorb delivery, packaging and price movement as much as the product. But there is an obvious asymmetry in what the two shelves let you do: on one you can see that 1,992 people rated a Rs. 14,999 Redmi at 3.4, and on the other you usually cannot see anything. What the missing brands actually cost
If you came to this page because Croma did not have the phone you wanted, these are the rupee figures for the brands it did not return. The moto g37 power sits at Rs. 19,915, with Motorola's 11 listings spanning Rs. 15,476 to Rs. 34,788 at a median 37% badge.
iQOO's 12 listings run from a Z11 Lite at Rs. 19,999 up to Rs. 93,999 at the flagship end, a median 32% badge. Redmi's 15 span Rs. 12,449 to Rs. 46,999, median 38%; the A7 Pro 5G at Rs. 14,999 is the volume listing, with 1,992 ratings at 3.4. Those badges are all higher than anything on Croma's mid-range shelf, and that is exactly where we would repeat the warning above: Amazon reference prices are seller-set and we cannot verify any of them. Use the rupee price. A Rs. 19,915 moto g37 power is checkable in a way that a 37% badge is not.

If you rely on ratings, that decision is already made. Amazon publishes a rating on 77 of 79 listings with a median of 169 ratings each; Croma leaves 55 of 84 blank and its busiest listing has 43 ratings.
Compare the rupee price, not the badge, and especially on Amazon. Reference prices there are seller-set. Find the exact model number, note the price on both sites, and let the percentages alone.

Why do Amazon phones show bigger discounts than Croma's?
Two reasons, and only one of them is about price. First, composition: Croma's shelf holds 17 Apple and 21 OnePlus listings, which are badged 3–9% off as a matter of pricing policy, so its 12% median partly measures what it stocks. Second, and more important, reference prices on Amazon are set by individual sellers rather than by a single retailer, and this project has previously found clearly incorrect reference figures on that shelf — per-unit prices on multipacks and MRPs off by orders of magnitude. So the 26% against 12% gap is indicative rather than meaningful. Compare rupee prices for the exact model instead. We allege no wrongdoing by either retailer or by any seller.
