That is the problem: the tickets run Rs. 99 to Rs. 649 and look interchangeable, while the thing you are actually buying - a bag - runs Rs. 1.21 to Rs. 13.00. We read 60 listings on 29 September 2026 and divided each by the bag count printed in its own title. The rate follows the size of the bag almost exactly, and follows the discount badge hardly at all.

Each selling price, stated MRP, discount badge, star average and rating count on this page was read on 29 September 2026 from amazon.in search results for 'garbage bags', 'dustbin bags', 'biodegradable garbage bags' and 'garbage bags large', server-side, logged out, in India, with ASINs deduped so no listing is counted twice. 60 distinct listings. Nothing was bought.
The rate is the selling price divided by the bag count in the listing's own title
Every 'per bag' figure divides the live selling price by the number of bags the listing itself prints in its product name. 58 of the 60 titles state a usable count and every range, median and band figure here describes those 58. Two are excluded: one states no count at all, and one states 'Pack of 5' in a title our read truncated before the per-roll figure. We did not open or count anything.
Size bands come from the dimensions printed in the title
Small means 17 x 19 inches, medium 19 x 21, large 24 x 32 and extra-large 30 x 37, as stated on the listings themselves. Two listings state dimensions outside those bands and are excluded from the band medians though not from the overall range. We did not measure a bag, and a stated dimension is the seller's own text.
A 'pair' means two tiles displaying one identical rating count
Where two listings state the same brand and the same pack and display the same rating count - 23,646, 54,466 and 16,417 in this read - we describe them as a pair, because a shared count is Amazon showing one product's reviews on two tiles. We did not buy either tile and make no claim that the goods shipped are identical, only that the published evidence is shared.

Priced per bag rather than per pack, the cheapest in our 29 September 2026 read was Rs. 1.21 a bag - 180 medium 19 x 21 inch bags for Rs. 217, with 850 ratings at 4.0. Behind it came Amazon's own Presto! small 180-count pack at Rs. 1.47 a bag and a 90-bag small pack at Rs. 1.54. Note that all three are large-count boxes: every rate under Rs. 1.70 in this read came from a pack of 90 bags or more. The shelf median was Rs. 2.45 a bag across the 58 packs that state a count.
Why do two identical garbage bag packs show different discounts?
Because the discount is calculated against a stated MRP that each tile sets separately. In this read, Amazon's own Presto! small 180-count pack appeared as two listings sharing one rating count of 23,646 - one at Rs. 265 behind a Rs. 420 MRP (37% off) and one at Rs. 273 behind a Rs. 540 MRP (49% off). The same happened on the medium 180 pack, at Rs. 319 with a 30% badge and Rs. 335 with a 47% one, both showing 54,466 ratings. In both cases the tile advertising the bigger saving is the dearer one. A shared rating count across two tiles is the quickest way to spot it.
Is it cheaper to buy a bigger pack of dustbin bags?
Usually and substantially, though the size of the bag matters more. Amazon's own brand sells medium bags in 90s at Rs. 2.83 each and in 180s at Rs. 1.77 each - the small box costs 60% more per bag, and two 90-packs would be Rs. 510 against Rs. 319 for one 180-pack. The extreme case in this read was a 15-bag large pack at Rs. 12.60 a bag against Rs. 3.77 for a 90-bag pack of the same stated size. But one 90-pack here came in at Rs. 1.98, below the median for its band, so check the rate rather than assuming.
How much should a large garbage bag cost?
In this read the 15 large (24 x 32 inch) packs ran a median of Rs. 4.42 a bag, from Rs. 2.93 up to Rs. 13.00. For comparison the 25 medium (19 x 21 inch) packs ran a median Rs. 2.21, the 12 small (17 x 19 inch) packs Rs. 1.66, and the four extra-large (30 x 37 inch) packs Rs. 10.38. Each step up in dimensions roughly doubles the rate, which is the single most reliable pattern on this shelf - far more reliable than brand or discount badge.
Are the big discount badges on garbage bags real?
They are real arithmetic over two published numbers, and they are not evidence of a saving. The three largest badges in this read - 91%, 89% and 83% - all belong to one brand that prints the identical Rs. 1,999 MRP on three different packs: a 180-bag medium at Rs. 217, a 60-bag large at Rs. 176 and a 60-bag extra-large at Rs. 349. One stated MRP cannot describe three different quantities of three different products, so the percentages derived from it describe the MRP rather than the deal. Stating a high MRP is legal and commonplace in Indian retail and we allege no wrongdoing by Amazon or any seller; we simply price the bag instead.
