We read both shelves on the morning of 24 September 2026 and divided every price by the pack size the listing states. Below: where the cheap litres really are, the four brand-and-pack pairs both sites stock, and the full rate list from each.

Only listings that state a pack volume are counted, because a per-litre rate is impossible without one. Both shelves were read on the morning of 24 September 2026 as a logged-out visitor in India with nothing purchased. Both retailers re-price without notice, so we re-read both shelves and log what has changed here.
Flipkart is cheaper because it is selling a different shelf
We read both shelves on the morning of 24 September 2026 and priced every listing by the litre. Flipkart's median rate is Rs. 120.33 a litre against Amazon's Rs. 149.00, and at the cheap end the gap is much wider: 39 of Flipkart's 245 listings are under Rs. 50 a litre, against 3 of Amazon's 59.
But look at what is actually down there. Flipkart's sub-Rs. 50 band is unbranded five- and ten-litre jars from sellers whose brand field reads 'phenyle', 'Careplus', 'Nirmangal' and 'vermliquids', plus institutional cleaning chemicals from Diversey sold in bulk to hotels. Its cheapest listing of any kind is ten litres of Diversey TASKI R6 toilet cleaner at Rs. 229 - Rs. 22.90 a litre - with six ratings.
Amazon's cheap end is thinner but better populated with names: Amazon's own Presto! brand runs from Rs. 99.80 to Rs. 134.50 a litre with rating counts between four thousand and thirty-seven thousand, and Vim, Lizol and Roff sit between Rs. 139 and Rs. 236 a litre. Flipkart's four searches returned no Vim, no Lizol and no Harpic at all. That is what the median gap is really measuring.

Where both sites stock the same brand and pack, Flipkart is up to 92% dearer
Four brand-and-pack combinations appear on both shelves, and on three of the four Amazon is the cheaper - substantially. The clearest is Koparo. Koparo's Organic Dishwash Liquid in a 2 litre refill is Rs. 228 on Amazon and Rs. 438 on Flipkart: the identical brand, the identical pack size, Rs. 210 apart. Per litre that is Rs. 114.00 against Rs. 219.00 - Flipkart 92 per cent dearer.
It repeats on the smaller pack. Koparo's 750 ml bottle is Rs. 149 on Amazon and Rs. 259 on Flipkart, or Rs. 198.67 a litre against Rs. 345.33. Amazon also lists a second 2 L Koparo listing at Rs. 249 and a 3 L at Rs. 399 - both still well below Flipkart's 2 L rate.
The exception is Roff, and it is worth reading carefully. Roff's Cera Clean 1 L tile and floor cleaner is Rs. 189 on Amazon and Rs. 154 on Flipkart - Flipkart Rs. 35 cheaper. But the Amazon listing carries 43,052 ratings against Flipkart's 289. That is the trade this whole page keeps producing in one line: Flipkart's price, Amazon's evidence.

Seventy-five of Flipkart's 245 listings publish no rating at all
One of Amazon's 59 listings publishes no rating. Seventy-five of Flipkart's 245 do. On a shelf where the whole proposition is a large unbranded jar from a seller you have never heard of, that is the number that should decide whether the cheap rate is worth taking.
Flipkart's own best-evidenced listings make the point rather than undermining it. Its most-rated cleaning product is a Pee Safe toilet seat sanitiser spray at Rs. 209 with 8,279 ratings - which is Rs. 2,090 a litre, the most expensive rate on either shelf. Its best-rated bulk buy is GAINDA white phenyle, 5 L at Rs. 168, with 1,853 ratings, and that is genuinely the best combination of price and evidence anywhere in this read.
Amazon's floor is higher and its evidence is uniformly deep: Roff Cera Clean has 43,052 ratings, Vim's 900 ml refill 41,040, Lizol's 5 L 39,458, and Presto!'s 5 L floor cleaner 37,408. On Amazon the question is which well-evidenced product to buy. On Flipkart it is whether the listing has been rated at all.
₹ The rule that falls out of this page. If you want a brand you recognise - Vim, Lizol, Roff, Presto - buy it on Amazon, where in this read Flipkart did not stock most of them and was 92 per cent dearer on the one premium brand both carried. If you want the cheapest possible litre and will accept an unbranded jar, Flipkart's bulk phenyl is genuinely half Amazon's rate - just check the rating count first, because 75 of its 245 listings have none.
Flipkart sells small; Amazon sells refills
The two shelves are shaped differently in pack size, and it explains most of the rest. Sixty-two of Flipkart's 245 listings are 500 ml or smaller, against five of Amazon's 59 - and small packs are where per-litre rates explode. Flipkart has four separate roff toilet-cleaner listings in 500 ml bottles at Rs. 340 to Rs. 400 a litre.
Amazon's middle is refill packs: 1.8 L and 2 L pouches and cans from Vim, Lizol, Presto! and Koparo, which is the format the national brands push. Eighteen of Amazon's 59 listings are 5 litres or more, against 35 of Flipkart's 245 - so proportionally Amazon is the bulk shelf, even though Flipkart has more big jars in absolute terms.
One thing worth doing on either site: check whether the twin pack costs anything. On Flipkart, roff's 2 x 500 ml pack is Rs. 202 while a single 500 ml bottle of the same Original cleaner is Rs. 192 - ten rupees more for twice the liquid, which halves the rate from Rs. 384 to Rs. 202 a litre. That is the single clearest saving on either shelf and nothing on the search page flags it.

What a per-litre rate does not tell you
Nothing on this page was opened, diluted, poured, applied to any surface or tested in any way. Every per-litre figure here is our own arithmetic - the listing's selling price divided by the millilitres the listing itself states - and it is a rate, not a price you can pay.
Two categories of listing break the comparison and we have kept them out of the matched table. Concentrates are diluted before use, so their litres are not usable litres: Flipkart's Diversey Taski R7 at Rs. 80.20 a litre and Amazon's Sunny concentrated cleaners make far more cleaning solution than the rate suggests, by ratios the listings do not state. Powders and blocks are sold by weight and do not belong in a column of liquid rates at all.
'Kills 99.9% germs', 'disinfectant', 'organic', 'non-toxic', 'plant-based', '10X better cleaning' and every other phrase quoted here is each listing's own title text on the retailer's own site, reproduced as printed and not verified. Amazon for brands and refills; Flipkart for unbranded bulk and small bottles
For any brand you recognise, Amazon. In this read Flipkart returned no Vim, no Lizol and no Harpic, and on Koparo - the one premium brand both stock - it is 92 per cent dearer per litre for the identical 2 L pack, Rs. 438 against Rs. 228. Amazon's own Presto! 5 L toilet cleaner at Rs. 519 (Rs. 103.80 a litre, 19,940 ratings) is the best combination of bulk price and evidence on either shelf.
For the cheapest litre in absolute terms, Flipkart - with the rating count checked. GAINDA's 5 L white phenyle at Rs. 168 is Rs. 33.60 a litre with 1,853 ratings behind it, which nothing on Amazon comes close to. Below that, the Rs. 22.90-a-litre Diversey has six ratings and the Rs. 39.60 Careplus dishwash has none.
What we would not do is buy Koparo on Flipkart, buy a 500 ml specialist bottle on either site without dividing by the pack size first, or read anything into a discount badge - they run from 2 to 94 per cent on Flipkart's shelf and describe the seller's MRP field rather than your money.

Cheaper rates exist: a 5 L listing from a seller branded 'phenyle' at Rs. 135 is Rs. 27.00 a litre, and ten litres of Diversey TASKI R6 toilet cleaner at Rs. 229 is Rs. 22.90 a litre on six ratings. On Amazon the cheapest floor cleaner is FRESSY 5 L at Rs. 279, or Rs. 55.80 a litre.

Is buying a 5 litre jar of cleaner actually worth it?
On rate, yes, and dramatically - but check the format. GAINDA's own phenyl is Rs. 33.60 a litre in a 5 L can and Rs. 99.00 a litre in a 1 L bottle, and Koparo's dishwash is Rs. 219 a litre in 2 L against Rs. 345 in 750 ml. The smaller saving that costs nothing is the twin pack: on Flipkart roff's 2 x 500 ml toilet cleaner is Rs. 202 while one 500 ml bottle is Rs. 192. One caution - concentrates such as Taski R7 and the Sunny cleaners are diluted before use, so their per-litre rate is not comparable with a ready-to-use bottle.
