Plum Return Policy 2026: The One-Third Rule and the Gift Voucher Refund

Almost every Indian beauty brand this site has read refuses returns on opened products. Plum does the opposite, in its own words: "if you are dissatisfied for any reason, we have a simple, 'no fuss' return policy in place." A partly used bottle can go back. Then the page names what comes back, and it is not money.

We read plumgoodness.com's refund and shipping policies first-party on 4 October 2026. Below: the one-third usage rule that usually bites before the seven-day window does, the store-gift-voucher clause that changes what the return is actually worth, the email-and-phone-call process, and the free-shipping threshold the brand declines to publish.

📅 Update log:
4 October 2026 — First publication. Plum's refund and shipping policies read in full from plumgoodness.com: the "any reason" return, the seven-day window, the one-third usage condition, the original-packaging requirement, the three-working-day processing time, the store gift voucher payout less shipping and handling, the email-then-call process, the 3PM dispatch cut-off, the named courier panel, the no-charge cash-on-delivery line and the unpublished free-shipping threshold. Terms verified 4 October 2026.

A return for any reason - paid back in store credit

Plum's refund page opens with something almost no other Indian direct-to-consumer beauty brand offers. Verbatim: "At Plum, we're quite sure that you will love all our products as much as we do. However, if you are dissatisfied for any reason, we have a simple, 'no fuss' return policy in place."

"For any reason" is the phrase that matters. Across this layer the norm is the opposite: Beardo states that cosmetics cannot be returned at all, Bombay Shaving Company accepts returns only for damaged, defective, expired or wrong items, and Dot & Key, Minimalist, Mamaearth and mCaffeine all restrict returns to defined fault cases. A change-of-mind return on an opened beauty product is genuinely unusual.

Then comes the clause that decides what it is worth. "We will process your request within 3 working days of receiving your product at our facility. The amount (less shipping & handling charges) will be refunded in the form of equivalent value store gift" voucher.

So the money does not come back. Store credit does, minus shipping and handling. That is a materially different proposition from a refund, and it is the single most important sentence on the page: the return is generous in what it accepts and narrow in what it pays. If you have decided the brand is not for you, a voucher for the brand is not the outcome most people are picturing when they read "no fuss return policy".

Read the return as an exchange, not a refund. The policy states the amount comes back as an equivalent-value store gift voucher, less shipping and handling - so it is worth something only if you intend to buy from Plum again.

The one-third rule: you may use it, up to a point

The second distinctive clause is a usage limit, and it is specific enough to act on. Verbatim: "Product must be returned within 7 days of receipt. We only accept returns where less than 1/3rd of the product has been used, and with the original packing materials, so that return transit is safe for the product."

Three conditions, all of which have to hold: inside seven days of receipt, less than a third used, and in the original packing materials. The middle one is the interesting one - it explicitly contemplates a product that has been opened and used, which every hygiene-exclusion policy this site has read rules out from the first line.

It also sets a practical clock that is shorter than the stated seven days. A serum or face wash you are testing daily can cross a third of the bottle well inside a week. If you are trialling something and are not sure, the usage limit is likely to bite before the date limit does, and the page gives no mechanism to measure or dispute what a third is.

Keep the box. The requirement for "the original packing materials" is not decorative - the page gives the reason, that return transit should be safe for the product, and a return without them does not meet the stated condition.

The return starts with a phone call you have to schedule

Plum does not describe a self-service return button. The page's instruction is: "In the rare instance that you are unhappy with a product, simply drop us an email at hello@plumgoodness.com with your name, telephone number and a convenient time to call. One of our product advisors" will take it from there.

That is a slower start than a form, and it consumes part of the seven-day window. The page also reassures that packing will be handled for you - "You do not need to worry. We will provide you easy instructions for safe packing and shipping" - but the clock on the window is running from receipt, not from the call.

There is one more instruction worth knowing before the parcel is even in your hands. On the shipping page: "If you believe that the product is not in good condition, or if the packaging is tampered with or damaged, before accepting delivery of the goods, please refuse to take delivery of the package" and call the brand. Refusing at the door is a different and faster route than returning afterwards, and it is the brand's own stated preference for a damaged parcel.

Plum's shipping terms, in the brand's own words
  • Free shipping: "We offer FREE Shipping on all orders above a minimum order amount, which is notified from time to time." The page states no figure.
  • Cash on delivery: offered "to many locations at no additional charge" - unusual in this layer, where a COD fee is the norm.
  • Dispatch: "Orders placed before 3PM are shipped same day, and orders received after 3PM are shipped next working day."
  • Couriers: "Blue Dart, FedEx, Aramex, Delhivery, Ecom Express & DTDC" - the brand names its panel.
  • International: "Yes, we do ship outside of India", by email arrangement.
  • Invoice: "Invoice will be emailed to the email address provided at the time of placing the order."
  • Special requests: expedited, timed or deferred delivery may be attempted but "we cannot guarantee that these requests will be fulfilled".
  • The page's own caveat: "Prices, policies and other information on this website are subject to change without notice."

The unpublished free-shipping threshold is the one gap worth flagging. Most brands in this layer print a number - Rs. 399 at Beardo and mCaffeine, Rs. 449 at SuperBottoms, Rs. 499 at Perfora, Rs. 999 at Dot & Key. Plum's page says only that a minimum exists and is "notified from time to time", so the only way to know what it is on the day you order is the cart itself.

Against that, the cash-on-delivery line runs the other way. "At no additional charge" to many locations is better than the Rs. 65 and Rs. 70 COD fees this site has read at Perfora and Minimalist - though the page hedges it with "many locations" rather than all, and we did not test a pin code.

What this means before you order

Plum's return is wider than almost anyone's and pays less than most. Any reason qualifies and a partly used product is accepted - but what comes back is an equivalent-value store gift voucher, less shipping and handling, not the money.

The usage limit will usually bite before the date limit. Seven days from receipt is the window; less than a third used is the condition, and a daily-use product can pass a third inside that week.

Keep the packaging and start early. The original packing materials are required, and the process begins with an email asking for a convenient time to call rather than with a button.

We did not buy, open, use, return or claim anything, and we did not test whether a voucher or cash is issued in practice. Every figure above is Plum's own published text on 4 October 2026, and the page states that its policies are subject to change without notice; the terms on plumgoodness.com at the time of your order prevail over anything here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I return a Plum product I have already opened?
Yes, within limits the page sets out. Verbatim: "We only accept returns where less than 1/3rd of the product has been used, and with the original packing materials", and the product "must be returned within 7 days of receipt." That is unusual in this category - Beardo, Bombay Shaving Company, Dot & Key and Minimalist all restrict returns to fault cases on unopened goods. Read 4 October 2026; policies change without notice.
Does Plum give a cash refund or store credit?
Store credit, according to the policy. Its words: "The amount (less shipping & handling charges) will be refunded in the form of equivalent value store gift" voucher, processed "within 3 working days of receiving your product at our facility." So the return is a change-of-mind return that pays back in vouchers minus shipping and handling rather than returning money to your original payment method. We did not raise a return and cannot say what happens in practice.
How do I start a return with Plum?
By email, and then by phone. The page says to "simply drop us an email at hello@plumgoodness.com with your name, telephone number and a convenient time to call", after which a product advisor calls back. There is no self-service return button described on the page. It adds that "We will provide you easy instructions for safe packing and shipping" - but the seven-day window runs from receipt, not from the call.
Does Plum charge for delivery or cash on delivery?
The page publishes no free-shipping figure: "We offer FREE Shipping on all orders above a minimum order amount, which is notified from time to time." On cash on delivery it is more generous than most of this layer - offered "to many locations at no additional charge", against the Rs. 65 and Rs. 70 COD fees this site has read at Perfora and Minimalist. The only reliable check is your own cart.
What should I do if a Plum parcel arrives damaged?
The brand's stated preference is to refuse it at the door. From the shipping page: "If you believe that the product is not in good condition, or if the packaging is tampered with or damaged, before accepting delivery of the goods, please refuse to take delivery of the package" and call the brand. That is a faster route than returning afterwards, and it avoids the seven-day window and the one-third usage condition entirely.

Zoutons may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. Every quoted sentence, window, condition and timeline here was read on 4 October 2026 from plumgoodness.com/policies/refund-policy and /policies/shipping-policy, logged out, in India, with nothing purchased, no account created and no return, refund or claim raised; quotations are reproduced verbatim from the brand's own pages, including its own punctuation and spelling. The shipping page itself states that "Prices, policies and other information on this website are subject to change without notice", so the terms described here may already differ from the ones that apply to your order - the policies published on plumgoodness.com at the time of your purchase, and any terms shown at your own checkout, prevail over anything on this page. We did not test whether a store gift voucher or a cash refund is issued in practice, how "less than 1/3rd used" is assessed, what shipping and handling is deducted, whether cash on delivery is free at any particular pin code, or what the unpublished free-shipping minimum is on any given day; all of those are the brand's published terms rather than observations by us. Comparisons on this page to return windows, thresholds or fees published by Beardo, Bombay Shaving Company, Dot & Key, Minimalist, Mamaearth, mCaffeine, SuperBottoms, Perfora or Nykaa describe figures this site read from those brands' own pages on the dates stated in the linked articles and may since have changed. Nothing here alleges unfair trade practice, deficiency in service, a dark pattern, misleading advertising or any breach of the Consumer Protection Act, the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules or any other law, rule or guideline by Plum, by Pureplay Skin Sciences (India) Private Limited or by any courier or payment partner, and no wrongdoing is alleged or implied; refunding a voluntary return as store credit, capping how much of a product may be used before it is returned, requiring original packaging and varying a free-shipping threshold are ordinary and lawful commercial practices. Nothing on this page is legal advice, and a shopper with a disputed return or refund should rely on the brand's own published policy and customer service rather than on this summary.
