Flipkart's return policy runs to three parts and several thousand words, and almost all of the argument people have with it comes down to one table near the top. That table does not sort by what you bought so much as by whose logo is on it.
For a long list of named brands — the ones most people actually buy — the policy's stated action is '7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only'. For the same product category from a brand not on the list, it is an ordinary marketplace replacement. Below: the brand lists in full, the five conditions that let a courier refuse your return at the door, and the open box clause that closes the window the moment you accept the parcel. All quoted as Flipkart printed it on 3 October 2026.
Named brands: '7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only'
'Only one replacement shall be provided' — stated three times
Accepting an open box delivery ends returns except for manufacturing defects
📅 Update log:
3 October 2026 — first published. flipkart.com/pages/returnpolicy was read on 3 October 2026 with plain scrapling, logged out, in India, with nothing purchased, ordered, returned or cancelled. flipkart.com/pages/shipping and flipkart.com/pages/payments were read the same afternoon for the return-courier and cancellation detail. Every rule, brand list and quoted phrase on this page is Flipkart's own published text as it read on that date and can be changed by Flipkart without notice. The policy itself states that the returns policy shown on an individual product page prevails over the general policy quoted here.
The rule that decides everything: which brand you bought
Flipkart's return policy is not one policy. Part 1 of the page is a table that sorts every category into a return window and an 'action possible', and the single biggest split in it is not between categories at all — it is between named brands and everyone else.
For a long list of named brands across mobiles, electronics and large appliances, the action the policy allows is quoted exactly as: '7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only'. For products outside those lists in the same categories, the policy offers a straightforward replacement handled through the marketplace.
That is the opposite of what most buyers assume. The better-known the brand, the more likely Flipkart's own policy is to hand you to the manufacturer rather than deal with the return itself. The policy puts it plainly: 'Please note that Flipkart is an online marketplace and the final decision on replacement of defective device rests with the seller/brand.'
| What you bought | What the policy allows | Who handles it |
|---|
| Mobile from Apple, Google, Motorola, Infinix, Redmi, MI, Vivo, POCO, Realme or Samsung | 7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only | Brand service centre |
| Any other mobile brand | Replacement through the marketplace | Seller |
| Tablet, laptop, smart watch, headphones or speaker from Acer, Apple/Beats, Bose, Canon, DELL, Epson, Google, HP, JBL, Lenovo, LG, Nothing, OnePlus, OPPO, Panasonic, PHILIPS, Realme, Samsung, Seagate, Sony, Xiaomi and others | 7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only | Brand service centre |
| Electronics outside those brand lists | Replacement through the marketplace | Seller |
| Large appliance from Vu, LG, Godrej, Haier, IFB, Voltas, BOSCH, PHILIPS, HAVELLS, Elica, BAJAJ, Crompton, Daikin, Whirlpool, Blue Star, Panasonic and others | 7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only | Brand service centre |
| Furniture and large appliances outside those lists | 10-day window, replacement after a technician visit | Flipkart service partner |
| Lifestyle: clothing, footwear, bags, watches, sunglasses | Return, replacement or refund | Seller |
| Wind instruments (harmonicas, flutes) | Non-returnable | Free replacement only if damaged, defective or wrong item |
Check the product page, not this table. Flipkart's own policy says so directly: 'All products listed under a particular category may not have the same returns policy. For all products, the returns/replacement policy provided on the product page shall prevail over the general returns policy.' The brand lists above were read on 3 October 2026 and Flipkart can change them without notice.
"Only one replacement shall be provided"
That sentence appears three times on the page, under three different category blocks. It is short, it is easy to skim past, and it is the rule that decides what happens when a replacement arrives faulty too.
The surrounding text explains the sequence. 'In order to help you resolve issues with your product, we may troubleshoot your product either through online tools, over the phone, and/or through an in-person technical visit. If a defect is determined within the Returns Window, a replacement of the same model will be provided at no additional cost.' Then: 'If no defect is confirmed or the issue is not diagnosed within 7 days of delivery, you will be directed to a brand service center to resolve any subsequent issues.'
So there are two ways to end up at a service centre rather than with a refund: buy a named brand, or fail to get a defect confirmed inside the window. For furniture the policy is more specific still: 'any product-related issues will be checked by authorised service personnel (free of cost) and attempted to be resolved by replacing the faulty/ defective part of the product. Full replacement will be provided only in cases where the service personnel opines that replacing the faulty/defective part will not resolve the issue.'
Refunds, where they happen at all, come after the product goes back. The policy states: 'For any products for which a refund is to be given, the refund will be processed once the returned product has been received by the seller.' And where a seller cannot replace something: 'In certain cases where the seller is unable to process a replacement for any reason whatsoever, a refund will be given.' A missing or damaged accessory may be handled differently again — 'the seller may either process a replacement of the particular accessory or issue an eGV for an amount equivalent to the price of the accessory, at the seller's discretion.'
The open box delivery trap
Open box delivery — where the courier opens the parcel in front of you — is generally a protection. The policy's wording makes clear it is also a deadline.
'During open box deliveries, while accepting your order, if you received a different or a damaged product, you will be given a refund (on the spot refunds for cash-on-delivery orders). Once you have accepted an open box delivery, no return request will be processed, except for manufacturing defects.'
Read that second sentence slowly. Accepting the box at the door closes off everything except a manufacturing defect claim. If the colour is wrong, if a freebie is missing, if it is not the variant you ordered — the moment to say so is while the courier is standing there, not that evening.
There is a related instruction for anything Flipkart installs: 'For products where installation is provided by Flipkart's service partners, do not open the product packaging by yourself. Flipkart authorised personnel shall help in unboxing and installation of the product.' And for several categories the policy adds that 'returns shall be eligible only when such products are installed by the brand's authorized personnel', so unboxing a washing machine yourself can cost you the return right as well as the warranty.
Five conditions that let the pick-up executive refuse your return
Part 2 of the policy lists what is checked when the courier arrives to collect. The closing line is unambiguous: 'The field executive will refuse to accept the return if any of the above conditions are not met.' These are the conditions, quoted:
- The MRP tag must still be attached. 'IMEI/ name/ image/ brand/ serial number/ article number/ bar code should match and MRP tag should be undetached and clearly visible.' Cutting the tag off a shirt you decided against ends the return.
- Everything in the box must be in the box. 'All in-the-box accessories (like remote control, starter kits, instruction manuals, chargers, headphones, etc.), freebies and combos (if any) should be present.'
- The product must be unused and unwashed. 'The product should be unused, unwashed, unsoiled, without any stains and with non-tampered quality check seals/return tags/warranty seals (wherever applicable).'
- Phones, laptops and tablets must be wiped and unlocked first. 'Before returning a Mobile/ Laptop/ Tablet, the device should be formatted and Screen Lock (Pin, Pattern or Fingerprint) must be disabled. iCloud lock must be disabled for Apple devices.' A locked device is a refused pick-up.
- No cosmetic damage, and the original box intact. 'The product (including SIM trays/ charging port/ headphone port, back-panel etc.) should be undamaged and without any scratches, dents, tears or holes', and 'The product's original packaging/ box should be undamaged.'
Who pays for the return courier, in the policy's own words
Read from flipkart.com/pages/shipping on 3 October 2026.
- 'Wherever possible Ekart Logistics will facilitate the pick-up of the item. In case, the pick-up cannot be arranged through Ekart, you can return the item through a third-party delivery service. Return fees are borne by the Seller.'
- 'In case of returns where you would like item(s) to be picked up from a different address, the address can only be changed if pick-up service is available at the new address.'
- On a delivery you never received: 'In case the product was not delivered and you received a delivery confirmation email/SMS, report the issue within 7 days from the date of delivery confirmation for the seller to investigate.'
So the stated default is that the seller bears the return courier — but the pick-up conditions above have to be met first, or the item is not collected at all.
Cancellations, and the Minutes exception
Cancelling before dispatch is the easy case and the policy is generous about it: 'The customer can choose to cancel an order any time before it's dispatched. The order cannot be canceled once it's out for delivery. However, the customer may choose to reject it at the doorstep.'
Two qualifications follow. First, there is a clock you cannot see: 'The time window for cancellation varies based on different categories and the order cannot be canceled once the specified time has passed', and 'In some cases, the customer may not be allowed to cancel the order for free, post the specified time and a cancellation fee will be charged. The details about the time window mentioned on the product page or order confirmation page will be considered final.'
Second, quick-commerce orders are carved out entirely. 'The Orders placed by you on the Platform are non-cancellable and non-refundable via self serve under MINUTES delivery option owing to quick delivery times' — except, via an agent, where the order missed its estimated time, was not picked up by the delivery partner, or was cancelled by the seller for reasons not attributable to you.
What to do before you click buy
- On a phone, laptop or large appliance, read the product page's own returns line. The general policy explicitly defers to it, and for the named brands above it will say service centre rather than replacement.
- Keep the tag on and the box intact until you are sure. The MRP tag being 'undetached and clearly visible' is a listed pick-up condition, and so is an undamaged original box.
- If it is an open box delivery, inspect before you accept. Acceptance closes everything but a manufacturing defect claim, and on-the-spot refunds are available for cash-on-delivery orders at that moment.
- Do not unbox anything Flipkart is installing. Several categories make returns conditional on installation by the brand's authorised personnel.
- Format and unlock a device before the courier arrives. Screen lock and iCloud lock are both listed grounds for refusal.
- Assume one replacement, not an unlimited supply. 'Only one replacement shall be provided' appears three times in the policy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I return a Samsung or Apple phone bought on Flipkart?
Not as a straightforward return, according to the policy as it read on 3 October 2026. Flipkart's Part 1 table routes mobiles from Apple, Google, Motorola, Infinix, Redmi, MI, Vivo, POCO, Realme and Samsung to '7 Days Service Center Replacement/Repair only'. Phones from brands outside that list get a replacement handled through the marketplace instead. The policy adds that 'Flipkart is an online marketplace and the final decision on replacement of defective device rests with the seller/brand', and for Samsung specifically: 'in case of DOA approved by brand, share the certificate of approval to the Flipkart customer support team to process your complaint'. The returns policy printed on the individual product page prevails over this general one, so check it there before buying. We have not returned a phone to test any of this.
How many times can I replace a faulty product on Flipkart?
Once, by the policy's own wording. 'In any case, only one replacement shall be provided' appears three times on the page, under three different category blocks, and a separate clause states 'a customer may only be able to seek a one-time replacement under this Policy'. If a defect is not confirmed inside the window, the policy states 'you will be directed to a brand service center to resolve any subsequent issues'. Flipkart also reserves a general right to limit returns: 'Flipkart holds the right to restrict the number of returns created per order unit, post the evaluation of the product/order defect is undertaken by Flipkart's authorized representative.'
Can I return something after accepting an open box delivery?
Only for a manufacturing defect. The policy states: 'During open box deliveries, while accepting your order, if you received a different or a damaged product, you will be given a refund (on the spot refunds for cash-on-delivery orders). Once you have accepted an open box delivery, no return request will be processed, except for manufacturing defects.' In practice that makes the doorstep the deadline for anything you can see — wrong variant, wrong colour, missing freebie, visible damage. The on-the-spot refund for cash-on-delivery orders is only available at that moment, before you accept.
Why did the Flipkart courier refuse to collect my return?
The policy lists the conditions checked at pick-up and ends with: 'The field executive will refuse to accept the return if any of the above conditions are not met.' The listed conditions are that the IMEI, name, image, brand, serial number, article number or bar code match and 'MRP tag should be undetached and clearly visible'; that all in-the-box accessories, freebies and combos are present; that the product is 'unused, unwashed, unsoiled, without any stains' with seals intact; that a returned phone, laptop or tablet has been formatted with screen lock and iCloud lock disabled; and that neither the product nor its original box is damaged. A detached price tag or a locked phone is enough on its own.
Can I cancel a Flipkart Minutes order?
Not through the app by yourself, by the policy's wording. 'The Orders placed by you on the Platform are non-cancellable and non-refundable via self serve under MINUTES delivery option owing to quick delivery times' — with cancellation or refund available via a customer-support agent in four stated situations: the order could not be delivered within the estimated time shown when you placed it; the delivery partner has not picked it up; the seller has not accepted or has cancelled it for reasons not attributable to you; or 'any other reason that the Platform may update from time to time'. For ordinary orders, cancellation is free before dispatch, but the policy warns that the window varies by category and that a cancellation fee may apply after it.

This page summarises and quotes Flipkart's own published return policy at flipkart.com/pages/returnpolicy, together with its shipping and payments pages, all read on 3 October 2026, logged out, in India. We did not buy, order, receive, return, replace, cancel or dispute anything on Flipkart, and nothing here is a report of any transaction or of how any rule was applied in any individual case. Every brand list, time window, condition and quoted phrase is Flipkart's own text reproduced as published on that date and may be changed by Flipkart at any time without notice; the brand lists in particular are long, are reproduced here in part, and change. Flipkart's policy itself states that 'the returns/replacement policy provided on the product page shall prevail over the general returns policy', so the page for the specific item you are buying is the authoritative source and this page is not. Nothing here alleges that Flipkart Internet Private Limited, any seller on its platform, or any brand named - including Apple, Samsung, Google, LG, Sony, Bosch, Whirlpool, Voltas, HP, Dell, Lenovo, Panasonic and the others listed - has acted improperly, unfairly or unlawfully, or has breached the Consumer Protection Act, the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules or any other law, rule or regulation; routing warranty service for branded electronics through authorised service centres is an ordinary and lawful commercial arrangement. Nothing on this page is legal advice, and it does not describe or limit any statutory right you may have as a consumer in India, which exists independently of any seller's or platform's published policy.
