We read Myntra's hair care shelf on 28 September 2026 - 50 distinct listings from Rs. 93 to Rs. 2,970, with 25 seated here. The median discount badge is 27%. On five other Myntra shelves pulled in the same run that same morning it was 75% for bedsheets, 75% for men's watches, 64.5% for sandals, 57% for handbags and 45% for mixer grinders. Twelve of the 50 hair care listings are under 15% off and the shallowest is 2%. The feedback runs the other way: 42 of the 50 publish a rating, at a median of 4,550 each, topping out at 88,256. Three brands show one rating count across two or three tiles - one sells the same shampoo at Rs. 786, Rs. 787 and Rs. 794.
Amazon has confirmed the Great Indian Festival 2026 starts on 8 October, and its early-deals page is already live, with SBI debit and credit cards named for a 10% instant discount. Every early-deal shelf is capped at around Rs. 1,000, so we swept Electronics, Home & Kitchen and Fashion & Beauty on 26 September and kept only branded products with real ratings behind them. Twenty-two picks made it, from the boAt Rockerz 255 Pro+ at Rs. 999 (over two lakh ratings) and Logitech's silent M240 mouse to Puma slides at Rs. 799, an 18-jar Solimo pantry set at Rs. 459 and Rs. 79 Halonix Diwali lights. Every price, MRP, rating and review count was read from the product page the same day.
We read Myntra's nail polish and makeup brush shelves on 27 September 2026 - 64 listings, 32 each, with 26 seated here. These are the two aisles where Myntra stops discounting. The nail shelf's median badge is 21% and the brush shelf's is 16%, against 65% for men's t-shirts, 76% for women's kurtas and 66.5% for men's casual shirts in a second read taken the same morning. Sixteen of the 64 listings state an MRP identical to the selling price - a badge of exactly zero - against 2 of 98 apparel listings. One brush range name sells at Rs. 80 under the brand's own label and Rs. 425 under a reseller's, both against a stated Rs. 400. And a millilitre of nail polish costs Rs. 3.22 or Rs. 31.25 depending on which bottle you tap.
We read Amazon India's omega-3 and collagen shelves on 27 September 2026 - 78 distinct listings, 36 fish oil and 42 collagen. Per capsule, fish oil runs Rs. 3.32 to Rs. 19.98, a six-fold spread. But five listings state their EPA and DHA per capsule, and on that basis the ranking inverts: a Rs. 999 pack works out at Rs. 18.50 per 1,000 mg of stated actives and a Rs. 383 pack at Rs. 21.28. Collagen powder runs Rs. 2.80 to Rs. 18.64 a gram, with one brand occupying three different rates in a single read. This shelf publishes no usable MRP - the figure in that position is Amazon's own per-unit rate - so there are no discount percentages here. Prices only: no health claim is made or implied.
We read Nykaa's perfume, face serum, body lotion and night cream listings on 26 September 2026 - 72 of them, with 22 seated here. This is the most-evidenced shelf we have read: every one of the 72 publishes a star average and a rating count, 3,367,649 ratings between them. But the evidence runs in the opposite direction to the price. The 35 listings under Rs. 500 carry a median 17,641 ratings each; the eight over Rs. 5,000 carry a median of 158 - a 112-fold gap. A Rs. 169 bottle has 95,849 ratings; a Rs. 10,710 one has 16. All eight designer bottles wear exactly 15% off, and the shelf's median badge is 12% on serum. One serum's 103,377 ratings appear on two listings at two prices.
We read Amazon's walnut, pistachio, raisin, makhana and dates shelves on 26 September 2026 — 150 distinct listings, of which 137 print Amazon's own per-100g rate, so the unit arithmetic is done for you. The spreads inside a single search are large: dates run Rs. 290 to Rs. 1,790 a kilo (6.2x), raisins Rs. 470 to Rs. 1,810, walnut kernels Rs. 890 to Rs. 2,950, makhana Rs. 770 to Rs. 2,000 and pistachios Rs. 1,390 to Rs. 3,090. Pack size is the biggest lever — a kilo of makhana bought in 200g packs costs about twice a kilo bought in one. On six of the 137, the printed rate and the weight in the title disagree by more than ten per cent. Nothing on this shelf carries a discount badge: there is no MRP to discount from.
We read the perfume shelf on four retailers on 26 September 2026 — 189 listings. Median prices run from Rs. 410 on AJIO to Rs. 1,640 on Tata CLiQ, but those are four different catalogues: no brand appeared on all four shelves, so that gap is about stocking, not overcharging. Where a like-for-like does exist, it is sharp. Wild Stone Edge: Rs. 343 on Myntra against Rs. 400 on AJIO, off the same Rs. 799 MRP.AND Love Muse: the identical Rs. 540, the identical Rs. 1,200 MRP and the identical 55% badge on both — and Myntra publishes 7,721 ratings while AJIO publishes none. AJIO showed no rating on any of its 68 listings; Tata CLiQ showed one on 58 of 72, at a median of six.
We read Myntra's kajal, eyeliner, mascara and concealer listings on 24 September 2026 - 131 distinct listings with a price and a stated MRP, 22 seated here. The shelf splits by evidence, not price. Four Recode kajals all sell at Rs. 99 and all carry 4.4 from the same 9,557 ratings, two declaring Rs. 149 and two Rs. 199, so identical products wear 34% and 50% badges. Two Lakme kajals Rs. 9 apart share 46,215 ratings; two RENEE kohls one rupee apart share 1,881. At the other end, eighteen seller names list one near-identical 3-in-1 combo, all declaring exactly Rs. 999, and not one publishes a rating. The largest badge in the read - 79% off - sits on a listing nobody has rated; the largest rating count, 138,629, sits on a 21% badge.
We read both beauty shelves on 24 September 2026 — 284 AJIO listings and 256 Nykaa listings. Neither site prints a pack size in its titles, so we matched on what both do publish: brand and stated MRP. Of 23 such matches AJIO is cheaper on 14, Nykaa on 4, and 5 are identical to the rupee, with gaps from Rs. 6 to Rs. 175. The bigger difference is not price. None of AJIO's 284 listings publishes a rating average or count; all 256 Nykaa listings do, with counts up to 544,080 on these same brands. And where product names match exactly the result splits two-all — including one L'Oreal conditioner AJIO lists at both Rs. 419 and Rs. 224.
The fall 2026 beauty edits settled on two ideas, the blurred matte pout and the berry-flushed cheek, and every global list leads with the same four products: MAC Powder Kiss, NYX Smushy, Benetint and Rare Beauty's Soft Pinch. All four are on Nykaa, at full price, because prestige brands do not discount here. So we paired each original with the Indian formulas that do the same job at a live cut, from a Rs. 296 Maybelline creamy matte to a Rs. 419 Nykaa blush stick at 30% off, and added the brick-red colour trend where it is cheapest to try: on nails, from Rs. 116. 22 picks priced on September 22, 2026, with Nykaa's Makeup Fest running up to 60% off makeup bestsellers on the homepage.
We read Amazon's razor shelf on 22 September 2026 - 80 listings, 39 stating a cartridge or blade count. Divide and one cartridge costs anywhere from Rs. 8.48 to Rs. 400.00, a spread of 47 times - and unlike most unit-price gaps, you cannot cross it, because a handle only takes its own cartridges. Gillette alone spans 33x, from Rs. 12.00 a blade for Guard to Rs. 400.00 for Labs. The multipack rule breaks twice: Mach3's 10-pack is 26% cheaper per cartridge than its 2-pack, but Mach3 Turbo's 10-pack is 10% dearer than its own 6-pack, both listings sharing one pooled rating count. Price the refills before you buy the razor.
We read Nykaa's Shipping Policy and its 25-clause Terms of Use on 20 September 2026. Shipping is Rs. 70 below Rs. 299 and free at Rs. 299 and above, with free shipping at any value for Prive Platinum and Gold members. The two pages publish two different cash-on-delivery floors - the Shipping Policy says no COD below Rs. 200, clause 9 of the Terms says COD above Rs. 249 - and a Rs. 20,000 ceiling for new customers. The Terms also state that a '30-Minute Delivery' figure is an average under ideal conditions and 'not legally binding', with the clock starting at payment confirmation. And clause 4 says Nykaa is an intermediary that does not own, manufacture or inspect the goods it sells.
Amazon prints a per-100 g price under most toothpaste listings and almost nobody reads it. We did, on 19 September 2026: 187 distinct listings across five searches, 138 of them publishing that rate. It runs from Rs. 27.57 per 100 g to Rs. 1,084.29, a thirty-nine-fold spread, median Rs. 103.34. The gap sits inside brands rather than between them - Colgate alone spans Rs. 36.00 to Rs. 430.00 per 100 g, 8.6 times, for pastes that brush the same teeth. And on three listings the printed rate is computed off one tube of a multipack whose title states the total: Dabur Meswak's "(3+1) x100g Pack" shows Rs. 389 per 100 g where the pack implies Rs. 97.25. Where a title states a total, do the division yourself.
A supplement is sold as a bottle and taken as a tablet, and the bottles on this shelf hold anywhere from 15 tablets to 400. Amazon publishes a per-tablet rate; we read it on 19 September 2026 across 93 listings. It runs from Rs. 1.63 a tablet to Rs. 28.55, median Rs. 7.63. Multivitamins alone span Rs. 1.73 to Rs. 24.87 - the same one-a-day habit at Rs. 52 or Rs. 746 a month, a difference of Rs. 8,330 a year. Weekly 60,000 IU vitamin D capsules work out cheaper per month than daily low-dose tablets, though dose is a doctor's decision and not a shopping one. And the printed rate fails on the biggest bottle in the read: 400 tablets at Rs. 2,877, displayed at Rs. 2,877.89 per tablet. Nothing here is medical advice.
We read Nykaa's face wash and conditioner listings on 19 September 2026. Thirty-three returned a selling price, a stated MRP, a rating and a rating count; 24 are seated here, from Rs. 99 to Rs. 1,025. Two Simple listings publish the identical 224,856 ratings at Rs. 599 and Rs. 392 - one pool of feedback attached to two product pages. Dot & Key sells four different face washes at exactly Rs. 214 against exactly Rs. 249, so the only number that varies between them is the rating count, which runs from 1,566 to 78,731. The discount ladder sorts by brand age rather than value: legacy haircare claims 28-37 per cent off, D2C skincare 10-16, and the Rs. 320 Matrix conditioner claiming 10 per cent undercuts three Unilever conditioners claiming 37. The best-evidenced product here is Cetaphil's Gentle Skin Cleanser, 4.5 from 433,017.
