Vijay Sales renders exactly 27 listings on each of its large-appliance category pages, which makes a comparison across aisles unusually clean: five sets of the same size, no weighting needed. We read all five on August 6, 2026 - air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, televisions and microwaves - and counted the brands before looking at a single price. LG holds 37 of the 135 listings, 27 per cent of the shelf: ten of 27 washing machines, nine of 27 refrigerators, eight of 27 televisions, eight of 27 microwaves. And two of 27 air conditioners. That AC aisle has twelve competing brands with none above a 19 per cent share, and it carries the deepest median discount on the site at 37 per cent, including the deepest single badge in the pull at 60 per cent. The tidy conclusion does not fully survive, and we say so: refrigerators have the same twelve brands and the shallowest badges. Vijay Sales publishes no rating anywhere here, so nothing is ranked by score. 25 picks.

We ran four home-fitness searches on amazon.in on August 7, 2026 - resistance bands, adjustable dumbbells, 6mm yoga mats and skipping ropes - dropped the sponsored placements, and kept the 114 organic listings carrying both a price and a stated MRP. Six of them are badged 99 per cent off. On all six, the stated MRP is exactly one hundred times the selling price: Rs. 229 against Rs. 22,900, Rs. 3,916 against Rs. 3,91,600, Rs. 180 against Rs. 18,000, Rs. 132 against Rs. 13,200, Rs. 749 against Rs. 74,900 and Rs. 5,498 against Rs. 5,49,800. A seventh at 98 per cent is exactly 50x. Nothing else in the 114 exceeds 86 per cent. Four brands and three categories are involved, so it is not one seller's quirk - but we cannot see how those numbers were entered and we do not pretend to. The products themselves average 4.1 stars. 23 picks, with the prices that actually matter.

We read six Reliance Digital audio searches on August 7, 2026 - bluetooth speakers, soundbars, headphones, earbuds, home theatre and neckbands - and kept the 67 listings carrying both a selling price and a stated MRP. Two things came out of it. First, not one of the 67 publishes a star rating or a review count, so nothing on this page is ranked by score and no rating pill appears anywhere. Second, badge depth falls with price in a straight line: median 74.5 per cent under Rs. 1,000, 50 per cent to Rs. 10,000, 25.5 per cent to Rs. 30,000, and 23 per cent above it. The deepest discount on the shelf, 86 per cent, is on a Rs. 349 neckband; the most expensive listing, an Rs. 84,990 Sony bar, is on 19. Two Marshall speakers at the identical Rs. 34,999 carry badges ten points apart. Three televisions came back in the home-theatre search and are seated here labelled as televisions, because dropping them would have flattered the finding. 18 picks.

We read four Croma appliance searches on August 7, 2026 - vacuum cleaner, water purifier, dishwasher and chimney - and kept the 84 listings carrying both a selling price and a stated MRP. Each search returned exactly 21. The discount turned out to be a property of the aisle rather than the machine: vacuum cleaners have a median badge of 60 per cent, chimneys 41, water purifiers 29 and dishwashers 18. Four of the 21 dishwashers are under 10 per cent off; none of the 21 vacuums is. The deepest badge in the pull, 87 per cent, sits on a robot vacuum stating an MRP of Rs. 1,79,999, which we name as an inflated sticker rather than repeat as a saving. The shallowest, 1 per cent, is Rs. 800 off a dishwasher. Ratings are thin and unevenly spread: 33 of 84 listings carry one, from 70 per cent of listings under Rs. 10,000 down to 12 per cent between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 50,000. The most-rated product here, with 178 ratings, is discounted 11 per cent. 23 picks.

We read three Vijay Sales category pages on August 7, 2026 - smart watches, laptops and mobile phones - and kept the 50 listings carrying both a selling price and a stated MRP. The phone page returned none, so this is 27 smartwatches and 23 laptops. Three things came out of it. First, one brand behaves unlike every other on the smartwatch wall: Samsung has ten listings and all ten are discounted between 2 and 7 per cent, while boAt, Fastrack, Noise, Redmi and CMF run from 14 to 76 - and all ten listings above Rs. 11,000 are Samsung. Second, the two aisles state MRPs in different registers: all 27 smartwatch MRPs are round retail figures, while only 7 of the 23 laptop MRPs are, the rest reading as computed numbers like Rs. 69,458 and Rs. 2,56,816. Third, not one of the 50 listings publishes a star rating or review count, so no rating pill appears anywhere here. Two watches sell at an identical Rs. 2,499 with badges 26 points apart. 22 picks.

On August 6, 2026 we read 80 organic Amazon listings across five desk aisles - laptops under Rs. 60,000, 24-inch monitors, wireless keyboard-and-mouse combos, laptop cooling pads and USB-C hubs - holding 232,411 ratings between them. The median discount badge climbs steadily as the objects get cheaper: 30 per cent on laptops, 37 on monitors, 42.5 on keyboard combos, 53 on cooling pads, 67 on USB-C hubs. Split by price instead of aisle, it is cleaner still - the 41 listings under Rs. 2,000 carry a median badge of 60 per cent against 36 for the 39 above it, and ten of the eleven listings wearing a 70-plus badge cost less than Rs. 2,000. The exhibit is a CLAW cooling stand selling at Rs. 1,190 that states an MRP of Rs. 1,19,000, printing a 99 per cent badge on 18 ratings. The best-evidenced listing in every aisle - including the most-rated item in the pull, at 31,516 ratings - carries a badge below its shelf's median. Twenty-two picks, every count printed.

On August 6, 2026 we read 63 live Croma listings across refrigerators, washing machines and microwave ovens. Twenty carry Croma's own label and 43 carry national brands, and the two groups behave differently in three measurable ways. The house label's median badge is 28 per cent against 21 for the national brands. Its median price is Rs. 11,894 against Rs. 19,790. And on the scores Croma itself displays, six of the seventeen rated house-brand listings sit below 4.0 against three of twenty-five national ones - the house range running from 1.0 to 5.0, the national brands from 3.0 to 5.0. The single lowest score on the shelf, a 1.0, sits on a Croma 7 kg washing machine at Rs. 15,990. The essential caveat, repeated in every seat below: Croma publishes star ratings but no rating counts, so a 1.0 and a 5.0 here may each rest on one voter. Twenty-two picks, matched on capacity before prices were compared.

Tata CLiQ publishes something most Indian retail shelves do not: the number of people behind each star rating. On August 6, 2026 we read 190 of its listings across perfume, luggage and watches - 117 with counts attached - and the counts reveal that almost all of the shelf's crowd evidence sits in one aisle. Beauty and Grooming is 60 listings, a median of 18 ratings each, and 1,732 ratings in total: 32 per cent of the listings and 79 per cent of the evidence, with eleven listings clearing fifty votes. The 78 luggage listings hold 153 ratings between them, a median of three each, and not one reaches fifty. The 51 watches hold 214, and the best-evidenced stops at 49. A Jaguar fragrance carries 261 ratings; the best-documented suitcase on the shelf carries thirteen. Twenty-eight listings display a perfect 5.0 and twenty of those rest on three voters or fewer. Twenty-two picks, every count printed beside its score.

Croma prints an RMS wattage in the name of every soundbar it sells - 10W, 60W, 300W, 1000W - which makes it the only specification on the shelf a shopper can compare across brands without opening fourteen product pages. On August 6, 2026 we read all 18 soundbars and home-theatre systems Croma had listed, divided each price by its own headline number, and the watt turns out to cost between Rs. 27 and Rs. 115. That is a 4.3-fold spread on the number the retailer chose to headline. Croma's own 300W 5.1 system is the cheapest power here at Rs. 8,099; an LG bar with the identical 300W costs Rs. 12,990 and gives you 2.1 channels instead of 5.1. A Sony 2.1 bar at Rs. 17,490 sits Rs. 500 below a Sony 5.1 system with real rear speakers. And at the top of the shelf the metric collapses entirely, because Rs. 81 a watt is buying fifteen channels of physical Dolby Atmos rather than amplifier power. All 18 listings seated, each with its own cost per watt printed.

We searched Amazon India for three kitchen appliances on August 6, 2026 - induction cooktops, electric kettles and air fryers - dropped every sponsored placement and kept sixteen organic listings from each, so the three aisles could be compared like for like. The result is a map of where crowd evidence exists in an Indian kitchen. The sixteen cooktops carry 211,021 reviews between them, one listing alone holding 75,905. The sixteen kettles carry 115,821, and not one has fewer than 342 - on products with a median price of Rs. 870. The sixteen air fryers carry 33,871 between them, one-sixth of the cooktop total, with five listings below a hundred reviews and three below six. The air fryer aisle is also the most expensive of the three by median price, at Rs. 4,773. The deepest badge in the pull, 99 per cent, comes from a Rs. 2,990 air fryer stating an MRP of Rs. 2,99,000 - a hundred times what it sells for. Twenty-three picks, every review count printed beside its score.

We searched Amazon India for three personal-care appliances on August 6, 2026 - hair dryers, beard trimmers and electric toothbrushes - dropped every sponsored placement and kept thirty organic listings from each, so the three aisles could be compared like for like. Two of them behave exactly as you would expect. Twenty-seven of the thirty hair dryers carry a discount badge, at a median of 31 per cent. All thirty beard trimmers carry one, at a median of 28. And then the third aisle simply stops: twenty-nine of the thirty electric toothbrushes display no struck-through price and no percentage at all, from a Rs. 399 sonic brush up to a Rs. 11,549 Oral-B iO9. The single exception is a Rs. 170 listing printing 83 per cent off - and the same seller's other brush, Rs. 29 dearer, prints nothing. Oral-B holds sixteen of the thirty listings in that aisle. We also found eight listings whose stated MRP sits below their own price, and excluded all of them. 22 picks.

A cookware shelf is one of the few places in retail where the same object is sold in five genuinely different materials at five genuinely different prices, so we read 80 Tata CLiQ cookware listings on August 6, 2026 and grouped them by what the object is rather than by what it costs. A tawa runs from Rs. 749 for hard-anodised aluminium to Rs. 3,739 for light cast iron - a five-fold spread on a pan that makes the same roti. A kadhai runs from Rs. 529 in copper-bottom steel to Rs. 2,799 in tri-ply stainless. The sharpest seat is a pair: two kadhais claiming the same triply construction, one at Rs. 949 and one at Rs. 2,799, with nothing on either listing to explain the Rs. 1,850. But the argument has a limit, and we tested it - five two-litre pressure cookers sit within Rs. 640, and there triply steel costs Rs. 84 more than plain aluminium. Material sets the floor; brand and finish set the rest. 22 picks, every material as the listing states it.

boAt's direct store is running cuts its marketplace listings don't match — we swept all 750 live listings on boat-lifestyle.com on July 23, 2026 and found 242 products at 40%-plus off, then kept the 21 that earn a slot. The headline math: Nirvana Ion ANC Pro earbuds at 84% off (Rs. 2,299), the Wave Call 3 smartwatch at Rs. 1,399, an AMOLED Lunar Oasis at Rs. 3,499, and a 160W soundbar at Rs. 5,699 — with the verified BOATHEAD code and a 5% prepaid discount stacking on top. boAt's MRPs run theatrical; every pick here was chosen on its absolute price, not its percentage. Roles, not rankings: the flagship, the volume king, cheapest thrill.

We read 78 in-stock camera, projector and printer listings from Croma's own search responses on July 31, 2026, and a quarter of them turned out to be the same two Instax bodies in six different boxes. Because Croma also lists both bodies bare — the Mini 12 at Rs. 7,499 and the Mini 11 at Rs. 5,999 — the film in every bundle can be priced exactly. The Delight Box adds 10 shots for Rs. 500. The Moments Box adds 20 for Rs. 1,000. The Fun Pack to Joy Pack step adds 30 for Rs. 1,500. All three work out at Rs. 50 a shot. Only the Mini 12 Mega Pack breaks it, adding 40 shots for Rs. 1,500 — Rs. 37.50 a shot, and no badge on the page would have told you. Across the rest of the aisle the median discount is 22%, and it tracks brand recognition rather than value: Qubo at 70% and Portronics at 66% at one end, Nikon at 3% and Sony at 2% at the other.

On August 5, 2026 we read 44 Amazon India television listings across three queries - 43, 55 and 65 inch - and checked the review evidence before the prices. Twenty-six of the 44 share their star rating and review count with at least one other listing on the same shelf, across twelve rating pools. Three VW Pro Series sets at three sizes all show 4.1 stars from exactly 2,419 ratings. Three Samsung Crystal UHD sets, three different model numbers, all show 4.3 from exactly 402. The sharpest case is Sony's BRAVIA 2M2: the 65-inch is 41 per cent off and the 43-inch is 20 per cent off, on identical review evidence. The discounts sort just as cleanly by brand tier - challenger brands cut a median 45 per cent, the mid tier 41, and Sony, Samsung and LG just 20. Twenty-three picks, every star score printed with its count, including a 4.7 built from four ratings and a 3.3 built from 233.
